Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 6 for Thursday Night Football:
Wan'Dale Robinson, WR, New York Giants
New York Giants wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson is a low-end WR3/flex option for Week 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles, largely due to his volume in the short passing game.
Ranked as the WR32 with an average of 8.88 fantasy points per game, Robinson's 78.3% snap percentage and team-high 22.7% target share (on 34 targets) point to a strong PPR floor, highlighted by his 23 receptions for 267 yards this season. However, the matchup is difficult as the Eagles have been a tough fantasy defense against wide receivers, ranking 16th and allowing an average of 21.4 fantasy points per game to the position.
Furthermore, Philadelphia's red zone defense is elite, ranking 3rd with a 42.9% Defense Red Zone TD Rate, which will challenge Robinson's low-depth targets and his 3 end-zone targets. Given the Giants' implied team total of 17.25 points and rookie QB Jaxson Dart's third start, Robinson's upside is capped, making him a safer PPR option than a high-ceiling one.
DeVonta Smith, WR, Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith boomed against the Broncos, recording his highest target and receiving yard counts of the season in a team-leading performance. The question with Smith, as usual, is whether or not he can turn this into consistency.
After his last big game against the Rams, he followed it up with two catches on two targets in the next outing. This week, he does have a very favorable matchup against the Giants, who are allowing the second-most fantasy points to WRs this season.
Plus, on a short week, Smith might be able to capitalize on a New York defense that's less than 100% conditioned. He's worth a WR3 spot in what should be his second consecutive strong week.
Jaxson Dart, QB, New York Giants
New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart (hamstring) was removed from the injury report on Wednesday and will play on Thursday night in Week 6 against the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles, according to Dan Salomone of Giants.com.
The 22-year-old first-rounder came out of the Week 5 loss to the New Orleans Saints with a sore left hamstring, but it was never really viewed as anything serious, even heading into a short week. Dart upset the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4 in his first NFL start, but he took a step back and committed three turnovers on Sunday to give the Saints their first win of the season.
There are going to be plenty of ups and downs for Dart in his rookie season, especially with top wideout Malik Nabers (knee) lost for the year. Dart's dual-threat abilities give him upside as a QB2 in fantasy, although he'll be one to fade against a tough Eagles defense that is coming off their first loss of the year.
A.J. Brown, WR, Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown has had four underwhelming showings in the first five weeks of the season, with his most recent game against the Broncos seeing him total just 43 yards on five catches.
That being said, if there ever were a time for Brown to impress, it would be Thursday night against the Giants. New York is allowing the second-most fantasy points to WRs and the eighth-most passing yards per game (237.2) this season.
Brown is getting consistent looks with at least eight targets in each of his last four games; now it's just time for him to capitalize on them. He's been a frustrating fantasy player so far, but this is make-or-break time for him. Even with his disappointing start, Brown is a low-end WR2 for Week 6.
Cam Skattebo, RB, New York Giants
According to a new story by Jordan Raanan of ESPN, the New York Giants view running back Cam Skattebo as both their top option for the present and the future.
The rookie from Arizona State has received the lion's share of work with Tyrone Tracy Jr. (shoulder) out for the past couple of weeks, but the team apparently views Skattebo as their preferred option for the near term.
Fantasy managers have seen a nice return on investment in Skattebo, especially in PPR formats, in which his 14 catches over the past three games have paired nicely with 198 rushing yards and a touchdown. The split between the two backs will be worth watching, but it seems like Skattebo will carry the upper hand.
