Week 10 Running Back (RB) Rankings Analysis

By Zach Wilkens (@LopsidedTrades)

I was a huge Dion Lewis fan this season. He looked like a special player with the way he avoided tackles out there. Sadly he’s now done for the season. The biggest to benefit off that is not James White or Brandon Bolden, but probably LeGarrette Blount.

He is now a consensus top ten RB and I am in agreement with that. He should see at least 20 carries and a few goal line opportunities at least. Expect similar numbers to last week’s bashing of the Patriots.

I am surprisingly high on T.J. Yeldon this week. I feel like most rankers are giving the Ravens run defense too much credit. It’s decent but not great. Yeldon has become a true workhorse. In his last four games he has 100+ yards from scrimmage and/or a touchdown in each of them.

His lowest standard scoring output during that time is 10 points against the better defense of the Jets. He is also averaging 19.5 touches during that span. I think Yeldon should get right around that number once again in which case he will be a very good play. I have him at RB12.

On the opposite end of that game I am low on Justin Forsett. The Jaguars give up just a 3.4 YPC to opposing running backs. Chris Ivory did score two touchdowns on them last week but it was on a paltry 1.1 YPC.

If Forsett  also has a low YPC I don’t see him getting touchdowns like that. The Jags are a little vulnerable to RBs that can catch and so that’s where Forsett will need to do damage. I think that they should shut him down as a runner well enough to keep him as just an okay play this week.

I am also low on Jonathan Stewart this week. The Titans are a great run defense that get no respect. It really shouldn’t be a surprise given that Dick Lebeau is the defensive coordinator. Lebeau was in charge of the Steelers defense over an incredible run in the mid-00s that only fell off in the last couple of years.

Since Devonta Freeman’s incredible run started in Week 3, which team has held him to the fewest fantasy points? Yep, it’s the Titans. For a guy like JStew that just doesn’t score a lot in general, it’s a pretty bad matchup. I have him at RB20.

Another week means another week of uncertainty with the Broncos RBs, Ronnie Hillman and C.J. Anderson. As soon as Hillman looked to be the clear RB1, CJA immediately started to play better.

Over the last two weeks, Anderson has undebatably been the more productive back. He’s the one I would play if picking between the two. However, knowing that things could change in an instant, I have both outside my top 25.
