Tyjae Spears fantasy football start 'em, sit 'em picks for Week 1 (2024). Should you start or sit Tyjae Spears for fantasy football lineups?
BALLER MOVE: Start in 14+ Team Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: RB3
ANALYSIS: Tennessee Titans running back Tyjae Spears is coming off a solid rookie campaign, totaling 838 yards from scrimmage on 152 touches. With Derrick Henry now on the Baltimore Ravens, Spears should see more opportunities in both the running and passing game in 2024. However, he figures to split evenly with Tony Pollard out of the backfield this season.
#Titans HC Brian Callahan on Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears:
“They’re both gonna play quite a bit of football for us, and I don’t view either one of them as a starter or a backup. They’re both starting players to me.”

While we don't know how Tennessee's backfield will play out this year, there's a chance that Pollard and Spears switch off drives. That was certainly the case in the team's final preseason game. With Pollard drawing the start in that contest and seeing all the first-drive reps, the second-year running back might be tough to rely on in fantasy in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears.
So, until we know for sure how the Titans will utilize their backfield, Spears should only be started as a potential flex play in 14-plus team leagues this week. He comes in as an RB3 in Week 1 against a Bears defense that allowed just 3.8 yards per carry during the 2023 season.
