Trey Sermon fantasy football start 'em, sit 'em picks for Week 5 (2024). Should you start or sit Trey Sermon for fantasy football lineups?
BALLER MOVE: Start in 14+ Team Leagues (if Jonathan Taylor doesn't play)
POSITIONAL VALUE: RB3/RB4 (if Taylor is out) or RB6 (if Taylor plays)
ANALYSIS: Indianapolis Colts running back Trey Sermon could be getting ready to start in place of lead running back Jonathan Taylor. Taylor sprained his ankle in Week 4, and there's a chance he won't play in Week 5. While there's been no official confirmation yet, there have been signs Taylor may not play.
We have signed RB Trent Pennix to the practice squad and released K Spencer Shrader from the practice squad.

Often, when a team believes a player at a certain position will not play, it will sign a player at the same position to the practice squad so it can potentially elevate them if its main guy can't go. This helps maintain depth in case of future injuries. It's unlikely the Colts would perform this transaction if JT28 was certain to go.
Thus, Sermon has a greater chance to start in Week 5. If he does, he has a pretty soft matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are terrible all-around on defense. He's a risky start outside of deeper leagues, though, as he has never been a factor in fantasy football.
