Should I drop RJ Harvey for fantasy football Week 6? Is RJ Harvey a safe player to cut? Read the fantasy football waivers outlook.
One of the rookies that generated the most hype this summer was running back RJ Harvey. Harvey was beloved by fantasy analysts and managers alike thanks to his ability to generate explosive plays in an offense that has produced high-end fantasy production.
That high-end outcome hasn’t materialized yet, leading to frustration from fantasy managers who used a top-70 pick on the exciting rookie. Fantasy managers are starting to lose hope that Harvey can be a fantasy asset after a quiet five weeks.

Should I Drop RJ Harvey in Fantasy Football?
RJ Harvey was one of the most popular rookie picks throughout the summer after the explosive rusher from UCF was drafted in the second round by the Denver Broncos. Harvey was pushed into borderline fifth and sixth round pick in fantasy (ADP: 63.9) thanks to the belief that he would flourish in Sean Payton’s offense as the next “Joker” mismatch as a pass-catching back.
Unfortunately, Harvey has struggled to make an impact to begin his career.
The rookie running back has just one game with a snap share above 33% this season, and it came in a 28-3 blowout victory against the Bengals in Week 4. It was also the only game where the rookie had more than seven touches in the offense.

On the surface, the rookie running back is averaging 4.8 yards per carry on 31 rushing attempts this season. However, that number is heavily influenced by an 11.7 yards per carry on six rushing attempts in Week 1. Since that game, Harvey is averaging just 3.2 yards per attempt. It also hasn’t helped that veteran running back J.K. Dobbins has been excellent this year. Dobbins is averaging 15.3 attempts and 80.4 rushing yards (5.2 yards per carry) per game this year with four touchdowns.
Rookies typically take time to ramp up and earn more work, and Harvey certainly could fall into that bucket. Harvey has had positive flashes this season (even if he doesn’t have a lot of volume), and Dobbins has a lengthy injury history.
The rookie is an ideal stash if you can hold out for better days ahead, but can justifiably be dropped if you need fantasy production immediately due to some injuries.
Who Should I Pickup for Fantasy Football?
Several running backs are worth checking on your waiver wire if you need immediate fantasy production, although almost none of them offer the same level of upside long-term as RJ Harvey.
Rico Dowdle (59% rostered on Yahoo) will be a popular name on waiver wires after rushing for 200 yards against the Miami Dolphins, but he may be falling back into a reserve role if Chuba Hubbard’s calf injury is healthier.

Names that are rostered at 40% or less that could be worth adding are Michael Carter (40% rostered), Kendre Miller (30%), Tyjae Spears (28%), and Isaiah Davis (5%). All four of these players have a consistent role in their respective offenses for the foreseeable future.
