What Did Khalil Shakir Do Last Week?
Through the first six games of the season, second-year wide receiver Khalil Shakir didn't have much of a role for the Buffalo Bills. He had zero games with more than one target and had never played more than 39% of the team's offensive snaps.
In Week 7, his snap share remained low, but he was targeted four times, catching all four for 35 yards. That performance earned him increased playing time in Week 8 when the Bills took on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Shakir played a season-high 65% of the team's snaps in that game, catching all six of his targets for 92 yards. He managed to have that performance despite Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis combining for 24 targets.
Khalil Shakir Waiver Wire Outlook for Week 9
The problem for Khalil Shakir is that Diggs and Davis are still far and away the top receivers on this Bills offense. Both players had nine receptions against Tampa Bay and tight end Dalton Kincaid had five catches.
Shakir's growing role makes him worth adding in deeper leagues, but it's hard to imagine the Bills consistently supporting three fantasy-relevant wide receivers. That's a lot to ask of an offense, even one as good as Buffalo's. He does have a good matchup in Week 9, though.
Khalil Shakir will likely have some more good games, but he's also likely to have just as many quiet games. He appears to be a boom-or-bust option, though that could change if Davis or Diggs misses time at any point this season. For now, managers in shallower formats can leave Khalil Shakir on the waiver wire.
