Rockies Sign First-Rounder Zac Veen
4 years agoThe Colorado Rockies signed rookie outfielder Zac Veen, their first-round selection at No. 9 overall, to a $5 million bonus on Wednesday. The top-ranked high school player received over-slot value for the ninth overall pick ($4.949 million). Veen features a great left-handed swing with leverage and power. He also features a projectable 6-foot-4 frame, and he has more upside the stronger he gets. The 18-year-old has been compared to Cody Bellinger and Kyle Tucker with the ability to hit for both power and average. Veen was a center fielder in high school but may project better in a corner outfield spot. His left-handed power stroke at hitter-friendly Coors Field gives him big-time upside at the next level.
