Rico Dowdle a Week 1 Stash
Rico Dowdle, the third-year running back out of the University of South Carolina, will try to make an impact for his new team against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1. The Panthers signed Dowdle this offseason to a one-year, $2.75 million contract to bolster their backfield. With rookie Jonathan Brooks sidelined for the season with a torn ACL, Dowdle immediately steps into the number two role behind starter Chuba Hubbard. Dowdle is coming off a productive 2024 campaign for the Dallas Cowboys, where he rushed for 1,079 yards and two touchdowns on a 4.6 yards per carry average. He also showed flashes in the passing game, hauling in 39 passes for 249 yards and three scores. His ability as a receiver could earn him an expanded role as the season progresses. However, given Hubbard's healthy status and the uncertainty of his usage, Dowdle should be considered a roster stash for week 1 and would propel himself into the RB2 conversation this season if Hubbard were to miss time.
