Pirates Want Andrew McCutchen Back
1 year agoPittsburgh Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said this week at the GM meetings that he hopes the team can find a way to re-sign outfielder Andrew McCutchen. The 37-year-old signed a one-year, $5 million deal last January and hit .256/.378/.397 with 19 doubles, 12 home runs and 43 RBI in 112 games (98 as the designated hitter) before a partial tear in his left Achilles in early September shut his season down. The Pirates would like the former MVP as a key veteran piece to lead the up-and-coming youngsters yet again. "It couldn't have gone really better," Cherington said. "When the opportunity arose last season, got a chance to talk to Andrew about coming back. It just made too much sense."
