The Philadelphia Phillies have selected right-handed pitcher Gage Wood with the 26th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. Wood most notably threw a masterclass in the College World Series, with a 19-strikeout no-hitter. He has the ability to simply overpower hitters with his upper-90s fastball thrown from a lower arm slot with a ton of carry while also boasting two breaking balls that can be developed. His fastball rocked a gaudy 45-percent whiff rate last season, significantly higher than the college baseball average of 18 percent. The right-hander also progressively improved his control over his college career, finishing with a strong five-percent walk rate over his final two seasons. He is capable of moving fast in the Phillies organization and could serve in a relief role in the short term.--Kyle McCarthyRead More News
