Pat Freiermuth 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook: Needs More Red Zone Involvement
6 months agoPittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth is looking to rebound from a down 2023 season with only 32 catches for 308 yards and two touchdowns. He missed five games while on IR with a hamstring injury suffered in Week 4, but also left Week 1 early due to a chest bruise. Regardless, his totals were underwhelming. Only once did he tally more than three receptions in a game, topping eight PPR points twice over 12 games. Pittsburgh's passing offense struggled mightily, ranking in the bottom five for teams in completions, yards, and touchdowns. While Freiermuth burst on the scene with seven touchdowns as a rookie, he's only scored four TDs in 28 games since. He saw six red-zone looks last year after 10 in 15 games in '22 and tying for the league lead with 20 in 16 contests as a rookie. This is a troubling trend. New starter Russell Wilson should improve the passing outcomes, but new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is known for his run-oriented approach and squandering Kyle Pitts' potential in Atlanta. Freiermuth may have the talent to succeed as a fantasy option, but he'll have to prove he can earn viable opportunities in this offense to be a fantasy starter. He's currently the TE16 in both RotoBaller's half-PPR ranks and ADP.
