Cole Ragans Completes Bullpen Session
Cole Ragans (shoulder) completed a 35-pitch bullpen session on Monday and introduced offspeed stuff for the first time in his recovery, reports Anne Rogers of MLB.com. This is good news for the lefty, who remains on the 60-day injured list with a left rotator cuff strain after last pitching on June 8. Even that start was his first outing back from an injured list stint caused by a groin strain, so the Royals have essentially been without their ace since May 16. The 27-year-old got knocked around for an unsightly 5.18 ERA in 10 starts this season, but it looked like positive regression was on the way, as he remained an elite strikeout artist with 76 in 48 ⅔ innings. If his recovery continues without issue, Ragans could make his long-awaited return to the rotation in early September.Source: Anne Rogers
Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates Beginning Rehab Assigments on Tuesday
Tanner Scott (elbow) and Kirby Yates (back) are both expected to begin a rehab assignment in Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday. Scott last pitched on July 21 before being placed on the 15-day injured list with left elbow inflammation, and Yates was also placed on the injured list with lower back pain after last pitching on July 26. The good news for both of them is that rehab assignments are typically much quicker for relievers, and both of them should see themselves back into high-leverage situations for the big league club before the end of the month. Scott is likely to be the one more in the mix for saves, as he has tallied 19 this year compared to Yates' three.Source: MLB.com
Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitchers Enrique Hernandez and Hyeseong Kim Starting Rehab Assignments
Enrique Hernandez (elbow) and second baseman Hyeseong Kim (shoulder) are both expected to begin rehab assignments in Triple-A Oklahoma City this week, reports Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. Hernandez has been out since July 5 with left elbow inflammation and has recently been participating in batting practice without issue. Kim has been sidelined since July 28 with left shoulder bursitis and was also recently able to take batting practice pain-free. He has a much better chance to see regular at-bats than Hernandez upon returning, as he's posted a .304 batting average and .338 on-base percentage this season and could become a primary infield option until Tommy Edman gets healthy.Source: Fabian Ardaya
Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Ryan Weathers Throws Live Batting Practice on Monday
Ryan Weathers (lat) was scheduled to throw live batting practice on Wednesday, according to MLB.com's Christina De Nicola. It will be the first time that Weathers has faced live hitters since landing on the injured list in early June with a lat strain. If the 25-year-old southpaw gets through Monday's session without suffering a setback, it's possible that he'll be cleared to begin a minor-league rehab assignment later this week. The Marlins are not going to rush him back, but Weathers is expected to return to the team's starting rotation in the final month of the season in September. Due to injuries, he's managed to make only five starts in 2025, but he's pitched well, sporting a 3.28 ERA (4.45 FIP) and 1.05 WHIP with 23 strikeouts and eight walks in 24 2/3 innings thrown. Obviously, Weathers doesn't have much left to offer in fantasy this year.Source: MLB.com - Christina De Nicola
Miami Marlins left-hander Max Muncy Starting to Feel Better, Doing Rotational Work
Max Muncy (oblique) is starting to feel better and will do rotational work on Monday, reports Sonja Chen of MLB.com. He was recently placed on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique that he sustained early last week. It was unfortunate timing for the veteran, who had just returned from the injured list on August 4 after recovering from a bone bruise in his knee. The 34-year-old has put up an excellent .389 on-base percentage with 17 home runs in 89 games this season, but this oblique injury is expected to sideline him for longer than the minimum stay. Expect a clearer timetable to be released after he progresses further in his recovery.Source: Sonja Chen
Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Tommy Edman on Track for September Return
Tommy Edman (ankle) is participating in baseball activities and looks to be on pace to return at some point in September, reports Sonja Chen of MLB.com. He has been on the 10-day injured list with a right ankle sprain that has kept him out of game action since August 1. Baseball activities are a good start, but he'll still have to build up to the point where he can run with max effort and likely go on a rehab assignment before returning to the majors. The 30-year-old had been in a lengthy slump after starting the season out strong, and he's now batting only .228 with a .281 on-base percentage on the season. He'll be looking to make his return and finish out the year with a strong final month.Source: Sonja Chen
Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Pulled With Hamstring Tightness
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (hamstring) left Monday's series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates early due to left-hamstring tightness, according to the team. Guerrero was replaced by Ty France at first base after going 0-for-2 with an RBI and a strikeout. Fantasy managers will be holding their breathe while Guerrero undergoes additional testing on his hamstring. We should know more on the severity of the 26-year-old's injury either later on Monday or Tuesday morning. But if he is forced to miss extended time, France would be the one to benefit the most in Toronto with regular playing time at first base. Vladdy Jr. has been a must-start in fantasy again in 2025 and came into Monday's tilt with a cool .300/.398/.500 slash line, .898 OPS, 21 home runs, 68 RBI, 83 runs and five stolen bases in 464 at-bats.Source: Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Tyler Wells to Make Two More Rehab Starts
Tyler Wells (elbow) will make two more minor-league rehab starts before he's reinstated from the 60-day injured list, according to MASN's Roch Kubatko. Wells has not pitched for the Orioles all year after having an internal-brace procedure on his right UCL back in June of 2024. The 30-year-old made his fourth minor-league rehab start last Friday and is nearing his 2025 debut, although fantasy managers would be better off targeting right-hander Kyle Bradish (elbow), who is also on the cusp of his season debut after recovering from Tommy John surgery. With Bradish set to return before Wells, it's possible that Baltimore uses Wells out of th bullpen to close out their disappointing season. Wells has a 4.06 ERA (4.54 FIP), 1.04 WHIP and 271:77 K:BB in 294 2/3 innings in his 95 MLB outings (46 starts) since debuting for the O's in 2021.Source: MASN Sports - Roch Kubatko
Baltimore Orioles right-hander Kyle Bradish to Return Next Week
Kyle Bradish (elbow) to return to the starting rotation on Aug. 25, 26 or 27 from Monday through Wednesday in a home series against the division-rival Boston Red Sox. Bradish has been on the 60-day injured list all year as he recovers from Tommy John surgery that he had in June of last year. The 28-year-old will make one more minor-league rehab start before being activated. The O's have to be encouraged after he struck out nine in five scoreless innings in his last rehab start with Triple-A Norfolk. Although Bradish only made eight starts last year, fantasy managers shouldn't ignore him to close out the year after he posted a 2.81 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 221:59 K:BB in 208 innings over 38 starts in 2023 and 2024. His first start next week against Boston will be one to avoid for fantasy purposes, though.Source: The Baltimore Banner - Andy Kostka
Baltimore Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said on Monday that the team expects right-hander Shohei Ohtani to Start on Wednesday at Coors Field
Shohei Ohtani will make his next start on the mound on Wednesday at Coors Field against the division-rival Colorado Rockies, according to manager Dave Roberts. The plan is for Ohtani to go five innings for the first time this season. It remains to be seen if Ohtani will be in the starting lineup as the designated hitter and leadoff man for Thursday's series finale. The Dodgers have eased the 31-year-old two-way superstar back into the starting rotation this year after he did not pitch at all in his first year with the Dodgers in 2024 while coming back from his second Tommy John procedure. Ohtani's last start against his former team, the Angels, last week was his worst in nine outings, as he allowed four earned runs on five hits in 4 1/3 innings. Coors Field isn't ideal, but Ohtani should be started on Wednesday against the worst team in baseball.Source: The Athletic - Fabian Ardaya
Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Tyler Stephenson on the Bench on Monday
Tyler Stephenson (thumb) is out of the starting lineup for Monday's series opener in Anaheim against the hosting Los Angeles Angels. Jose Trevino is doing the catching for right-hander Brady Singer and will bat seventh against Angels right-hander Victor Mederos. For now, the Reds are considering Stephenson as day-to-day with a sore left thumb. Check back on Tuesday to see if he's available to return in Game 2 of the series versus the Halos. The former 11th overall pick in 2015 has only played in 72 games in 2025 in his sixth year in the big leagues. Stephenson is still Cincy's primary catcher, but while battling injuries, he's hit a disappointing .226 (57-for-252) with nine home runs, 36 RBI and 32 runs scored in 288 trips to the plate. Since the All-Star break, he's gone 13-for-62 (.210) with three homers, four RBI, nine runs and 22 strikeouts in 18 games.Source: MLB.com
Cincinnati Reds catcher Jordan Westburg Leaves Monday With Ankle Discomfort
Jordan Westburg (ankle) left Monday's series opener early against the Boston Red Sox with right-ankle discomfort, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN. Westburg was injured trying to get back to first base early in the game and was hitless in his only plate appearance before departing. Luis Vazquez entered as a pinch-runner and took over at third base for the injured Westburg. It's been an injury-plaged season for the 26-year-old, but he remains the team's primary third baseman when he's healthy. The former first-rounder in 2020 out of Mississippie State has a .277/.327/.475 slash line with a career-best .802 OPS, 15 home runs, 34 RBI and 53 runs scored in 72 games played. Westburg is three homers away from matching his career-high that he set a year ago when he was a first-time All-Star. Vazquez and Jeremiah Jackson could split playing time at third if Westburg misses more time.Source: MASN Sports - Roch Kubatko
Baltimore Orioles third baseman Game 2 of Brewers-Cubs on Monday Postponed
Chad Patrick was scheduled to make the start in Game 2 for the Brewers and was set to be opposed by right-hander Jameson Taillon (calf) for the Cubbies. Expect the two starters to be pushed back to one of Tuesday's contests during the rare five-game divisional series this week in Chicago. The red-hot Brewers shut out the struggling Cubs earlier on Monday in a 7-0 ball game, with right-hander Freddy Peralta tossing six shutout frames with six strikeouts and only one hit to win his 15th game of the 2025 season. Taillon will have to wait another day to come off the 15-day injured list.Source: MLB.com - Adam McCalvy
The second game of a doubleheader on Tuesday at Wrigley Field between the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs has been postponed by rain, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. The two teams will play a split doubleheader on Tuesday. Right-hander Kyle Higashioka Dealing With Hamstring Injury
Kyle Higashioka (hamstring) has a "very very, very mild" hamtring injury that has lingered, which is why Jonah Heim is making his third straight start behind the plate for Monday's series opener against the hosting Kansas City Royals and right-hander Michael Wacha. Heim is batting ninth in the order. The Rangers are hoping that Higashioka will be able to catch one of the games against KC this week at Kauffman Stadium during their four-game series. Higashioka had a career year with the San Diego Padres in 2024 with 17 home runs and 45 RBI in 84 games, but he's taken a step back in Texas while sharing playing time with Heim. Going into this week, the 35-year-old veteran is slashing .256/.301/.417 with a .718 OPS, eight home runs, 33 RBI, 24 runs and a career-high three stolen bases.Source: MLB.com - Kennedi Landry
Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that catcher Casey Schmitt Returns to Giants Lineup
Casey Schmitt (forearm) is back in the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the division-rival San Diego Padres and left-hander Nestor Cortes at Petco Park, playing third base and batting cleanup. Schmitt has been cleared to return after missing the last two games due to a contusion on his right forearm. The 26-year-old former second-rounder in 2020 out of San Diego State University is currently seeing regular playing time at the hot corner with Matt Chapman (hand) back on the injured list. Schmitt is slashing .251/.324/.405 on the year with seven round-trippers, 24 RBI and 20 runs scored in 195 at-bats. He's been better in August, though, going 12-for-42 (.286) with two homers, three doubles and seven RBI, and he's hit .800 with a homer and two RBI in only five career at-bats against Cortes.Source: MLB.com
