Ryan Weathers Sharp in Return From Three-Month Absence
Ryan Weathers impressed in his return from a lat injury on Thursday. Making his first start since June 7, Weathers held the Washington Nationals scoreless over five innings of five-hit ball and logged four strikeouts against no walks on 68 pitches (46 strikes). Weathers picked up the win in a 5-0 game, improving to 2-1 on the season. Injuries have limited the 25-year-old to just six starts in 2025, but he has held his own across 29 2/3 innings. Weathers has registered a 2.73 ERA with a 1.04 WHIP, 23 strikeouts, and eight walks. He's slated to make his next start at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday. While that's a challenging venue for pitchers, the Rockies' .671 OPS versus lefties ranks a lackluster 21st in the majors.

Keegan Akin Notches Fifth Save on Thursday
Keegan Akin collected his fifth save of the year in a 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday. The left-hander struck out one in a scoreless, one-hit ninth inning and threw 13 pitches (nine strikes). Akin, who has been sharing the closer role with righty Yennier Cano in the absence of the injured Felix Bautista (shoulder), has picked up two saves and allowed one earned run in 5 1/3 innings this month. He now owns a 3.14 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP, 54 strikeouts, and 30 walks over 57 1/3 frames this season.

Kevin Gausman Tosses Complete-Game Shutout
Kevin Gausman dominated the Houston Astros in a complete-game shutout on Thursday. Gausman improved to 10-10 in the Jays' 6-0 victory, yielding a pair of singles while tallying nine strikeouts against one walk over 100 pitches (79 pitches). The 34-year-old has offered elite production across his past three starts, having combined for 24 innings of two-run, eight-hit ball with 22:2 K:BB. His ERA is down to 3.44 with the majors' 10th-best WHIP (1.00), 171 strikeouts, and 45 walks through 177 1/3 innings. Gausman is scheduled to make his next start against the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday. The Rays got the better of Gausman in their first meeting on May 15, when they teed off on him for six earned runs on 10 hits (including three homers) in 5 2/3 frames.

Jo Adell Scratched With Vertigo on Thursday
Jo Adell (illness) is dealing with vertigo and has been scratched from the team's lineup against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports. Chris Taylor will take Adell's place in right field and hit fifth versus right-hander Bryce Miller, while Luis Rengifo will play second base and bat sixth. After Adell missed the Angels' first two games this week with vertigo, he felt well enough to play in their 4-3 win over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. Adell went 0-for-3 in that game, but this has been a career year for the former top prospect. Adell has slashed .242/.304/.504 with 35 home runs, 94 RBI, 57 runs scored, and five stolen bases over 516 plate appearances in his age-26 season. Fantasy managers should check back on Friday to see if he returns to the Angels' lineup.

Alek Manoah Activated, Optioned to Triple-A
Alek Manoah (elbow) from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Buffalo. To make room for Manoah on the 40-man roster, the team designated infielder Orelvis Martinez for assignment. Manoah is finally healthy after undergoing hybrid Tommy John surgery in June 2024, but with no openings in the Blue Jays' rotation, he'll continue to work in the minors. The former All-Star, 27, made five starts with Buffalo on his rehab assignment and recorded a 3.09 ERA with a 1.46 WHIP, 18 strikeouts, and 12 walks in 23 1/3 innings. Manoah may finish the season there, but with Max Scherzer, Chris Bassitt, and Shane Bieber potentially hitting free agency over the winter, he should have a chance to rejoin Toronto's rotation next spring.

Jayden Reed Questionable to Return on TNF With Shoulder Injury
Jayden Reed (shoulder) is questionable to return to Thursday's contest due to a shoulder injury. Reed suffered this injury when making a catch along the sidelines, which ultimately resulted in a touchdown. However, this play was called back for holding. After making the catch, Reed was holding his shoulder in pain and needed assistance to walk off the field. Entering this game, Reed was also dealing with a fracture in his foot. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status. In Week 1, Reed found the back of the end zone and tallied 45 yards on three receptions. While he remains sidelined, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and rookie Matthew Golden will lead the WR room.

Ty Chandler Lands on Injured List With Knee Injury
Ty Chandler (knee) on Injured Reserve, which means he will be forced to sit out beyond the team's Week 6 bye. Chandler was active for the Week 1 win over the Chicago Bears on Monday night but only played on special teams as a return man. With Chandler's injury, the Vikings are now pretty thin in the backfield behind their top two options, Aaron Jones Sr. and Jordan Mason. Zavier Scott is currently listed as their No. 3. Myles Price (knee) and Tai Felton are the candidates to replace Chandler on kickoff-return duties moving forward, starting in Week 2 on Sunday night against the Atlanta Falcons. In three seasons with the Vikes, Chandler has 164 rushing attempts for 663 yards (4.0 yards per carry) and three rushing touchdowns in 38 games (four starts).

Hunter Renfrow Puts in Another Limited Practice
Hunter Renfrow (ribs) is on the Week 2 injury report and has had two limited practices on Wednesday and Thursday. If Renfrow is unable to upgrade to a full practice on Friday, he could be considered questionable for Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. In his Panthers debut in the team's Week 1 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Renfrow caught two of his six targets for 11 yards as the offense struggled to move the ball effectively. The 29-year-old has a clear path to starting slot duties in Carolina after the team traded Adam Thielen to the Minnesota Vikings, but at best, he's the WR3 behind rookie first-rounder Tetairoa McMillan and Xavier Leggette. Renfrow is currently rostered in only 1 percent of Yahoo leagues.

Josh Reynolds Added to Week 2 Injury Report
Josh Reynolds (hamstring) popped up on the Week 2 injury report on Thursday and was listed as a non-participant in practice. Mid-week injuries are typically not a good sign, especially if a player doesn't practice at all a day after being a full-go. Reynolds has a shot to return to practice on Friday, but he's trending as questionable right now to play in Week 2 against the division-rival Buffalo Bills. The 30-year-old veteran played 97 percent of the offensive snaps in the Week 1 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but it amounted to only two catches on three targets for 18 yards in a game in which the Jets' offense was humming against a strong defense. Allen Lazard was a surprise inactive last weekend in the season opener, but if Reynolds cannot play, he should be active for the first time as the potential WR2 behind Garrett Wilson.

Chris Rodriguez Jr. a Healthy Scratch for Second Straight Week
Chris Rodriguez Jr. is a healthy inactive for the second straight week to open the season in 2025 on Thursday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers. There were rumblings at the end of training camp that Rodriguez could have a significant early-down role alongside rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt after the team traded Brian Robinson Jr. to the San Francisco 49ers, but that has not been the case. The 24-year-old RB has opened the year as the No. 4 behind Croskey-Merritt, veteran Austin Ekeler, and Jeremy McNichols. JCR has the most upside of any back in Washington's offense as the favorite for most of the early down work, while Ekeler has flex appeal in point-per-reception leagues. At least for another week, Rodriguez belongs on the waiver wire in 12-team fantasy formats.

JP Sears to Make Spot Start This Weekend
JP Sears is expected to be recalled to make a spot start against the Colorado Rockies at some point this weekend. The plan is to bring Sears up for a spot start so the regular starters can get extra rest. The 29-year-old has only made three starts with the Padres since being dealt from the Athletics at the deadline. The southpaw holds a 5.52 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and a 8/3 K/BB ratio across 14.2 innings of work with San Diego. Sears remains a risky streaming option even against a shaky Rockies lineup.

Darius Slayton Limited With Groin Injury on Thursday
Darius Slayton (groin) popped up on Thursday's injury report and was listed as a limited participant in practice despite not showing up on the initial Week 2 injury report on Wednesday. If Slayton is unable to return to a full practice on Friday, he could be considered questionable for the Week 2 matchup against the division-rival Dallas Cowboys this Sunday. Even if the 28-year-old is cleared to play this weekend, fantasy managers in most leagues should be avoiding Slayton in a Giants offense that struggled to move the ball in the season-opening loss to the Washington Commanders under new quarterback Russell Wilson. At best, Slayton is a low-volume WR3 in New York's offense behind Malik Nabers and Wan'Dale Robinson. In Week 1, he failed to corral his only target from Wilson.

Otto Lopez Gets Routine Rest Day
Otto Lopez is absent from the starting lineup ahead of Thursday's game against the Washington Nationals. This is a rare off day for Lopez who has started in every game since August 23. Lopez has been hot with the plate lately, going 7-for-15 with two home runs and six RBI over his last four games. He's certainly someone worth considering snagging off the waiver wire at the moment given his hot streak. Maximo Acosta will cover shortstop while Javier Sanoja takes over third base versus left-hander MacKenzie Gore on Thursday.

Christian Kirk Misses First Practice of the Week
Christian Kirk (hamstring) was unable to practice on Wednesday as the team began preparations to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night in Week 2. Wideout Braxton Berrios (hamstring) was also listed as a DNP. The Texans are saying both pass-catchers are making progress, but it doesn't mean they'll be active for Monday Night Football. With Kirk inactive in Week 1, none of Houston's receivers really stood out on a tough day for the offense, even WR1 Nico Collins, who had just three catches for 25 yards. If Kirk were to miss another game in Week 2, expect targets to be spread among rookies Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Joel, Xavier Hutchinson, and Justin Watson, as well as tight end Dalton Schultz. Kirk still has two more days to return to practice on Friday and Saturday, but as of now, it's not looking good for him to make his debut with the Texans on Monday night. When healthy, he's expected to operate as the team's primary slot receiver.

Francisco Alvarez Idle on Thursday
Francisco Alvarez is out of the starting lineup ahead of Thursday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. This appears to be a routine rest day for Alvarez who has struggled at the plate lately. Since returning from injury, Alvarez is 2-for-18 with nine strikeouts. Hayden Senger will do the catching and bat ninth against left-hander Jesus Luzardo. Alvarez has good power upside, but isn't doing enough with the bat right now to warrant rostering in most fantasy formats.

James Wood Absent on Thursday
James Wood is out of the starting lineup ahead of Thursday's game against the Miami Marlins. This is a rare off day for Wood who hasn't sat out of a contest since August 17. It's probably a good time with left-hander Ryan Weathers on the mound for Miami. This will give the Nats a chance to play the matchup game here. Paul DeJong will serve as the designated hitter and bat seventh during Thursday's game. Fantasy managers should check their lineups and adjust accordingly ahead of first pitch.

Evan Engram Upgrades to Full Practice
Evan Engram (calf) improved to a full participant in practice on Thursday after being limited on Wednesday, according to Aric DiLalla of DenverBroncos.com. Engram was injured in the Week 1 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, but his return to a full practice on Thursday means he should be fine to play this Sunday on the road against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. Before leaving early against the Titans last weekend, the 31-year-old had a pretty quiet debut with Denver, catching three of his four targets for 21 yards and no touchdowns. If active in Week 2, Engram will hope to be more involved in the passing game for a Denver offense that was stuck in the mud for all four quarters against Tennessee. If Engram is cleared to suit up on Friday, fantasy managers should consider him more of a TE2 with upside as he looks to cement a bigger role with his new team.

Victor Robles Taking a Seat on Thursday
Victor Robles is out of the starting lineup ahead of Thursday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. This is now back-to-back games that Robles has been held out of the starting lineup. Before that, Robles was 5-for-17 across four games since returning from his suspension. Luke Raley will take over in right field and bat seventh versus right-hander Jose Soriano on Thursday. Robles hasn't done enough with the bat to warrant rostering in anything more than deep leagues.

Another DNP for Jauan Jennings
Jauan Jennings (shoulder) was doing conditioning on a side field on Thursday and did not practice with the rest of the team, according to the Bay Area News Group's Cam Inman. Jennings injured his shoulder late in the Week 1 win over the Seattle Seahawks and never returned. The Niners sent Jennings for tests earlier this week, and it's not believed that he's dealing with anything serious. However, with two straight DNPs to begin the week, he's trending in the wrong direction to play in Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints unless he's able to practice on Friday. The 28-year-old should have a bigger role going forward with tight end George Kittle (hamstring) out three to five weeks, but he'll be a fade candidate in fantasy if he plays in Week 2 with backup quarterback Mac Jones expected to make the start. Jennings caught only two passes for 16 yards in the season opener.

Reid Detmers Placed on 15-Day Injured List
Reid Detmers (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Thursday. This news comes after Detmers was removed from Wednesday's outing due to elbow discomfort. His 2025 season is now basically over, with only a few weeks left in the regular season. He'll finish his year with a 3.96 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and an 80/25 K/BB across 63 2/3 innings of work this season. In a corresponding move, right-hander Chase Silseth has been recalled to take over the active roster spot. Detmers can safely be dropped in all fantasy formats.

Christian McCaffrey Back in Action on Thursday
Christian McCaffrey (calf) returned to practice on Thursday after being rested in the first practice of the week on Wednesday. It's unclear if McCaffrey was a full or limited participant, but he should be good to go for Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints as long as he doesn't suffer any sort of setback on Friday. The 29-year-old oft-injured RB popped up on last week's injury report on Thursday but proceeded to play in the Week 1 win over the Seattle Seahawks. CMC had a positive season opener after being the biggest fantasy bust in 2024 due to injuries, as he produced 142 scrimmage yards. He ran for 69 yards on 22 carries and also caught nine of his 10 targets for an additional 73 yards through the air. Quarterback Brock Purdy (toe) is not expected to play in Week 2, but McCaffrey should continue to be a target hog, especially with tight end George Kittle (hamstring) out three to five weeks. He's a must-start in all fantasy formats.

Drake London, Darnell Mooney Both Limited Again on Thursday
Drake London (shoulder) and Darnell Mooney (shoulder) were both listed as limited participants for the second straight day in practice on Thursday. London injured his shoulder in the fourth quarter of the Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while Mooney was inactive for the season opener. It sounds like they could both be available on Sunday night against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2, but they could draw questionable tags on Friday if they are unable to upgrade to full practices. Head coach Raheem Morris said earlier this week that he expects London to play this weekend, but it's not a guarantee. A questionable tag would make London, normally a must-start WR1, much more risky going into Sunday night. London was heavily involved in Week 1 before getting hurt, catching eight of 15 targets for 55 yards.

Brock Bowers Not Practicing on Thursday
Brock Bowers (knee) is not practicing on Thursday, according to Ryan McFadden of ESPN. Bowers took part in the walk-through portion of practice but didn't do any team drills and will go down as a DNP on the first injury report of Week 2 as the team begins preparing for the division-rival Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night. Bowers downplayed his knee injury after getting hurt in the season-opening win over the New England Patriots last Sunday, and the Raiders are holding out hope that he can return to practice on Thursday or Friday. However, the second-year TE is firmly up in the air to play in Week 2 as things currently stand, and fantasy managers need to have a backup plan in place. Bowers is a must-start TE in fantasy when he's active, but Michael Mayer could be a sneaky streamer against the Bolts on Monday if Bowers cannot get cleared to play.

Anthony Volpe Playing Through Partially Torn Labrum in his Shoulder
Anthony Volpe (shoulder) has been playing through a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder, manager Aaron Boone said on Thursday. The Yankees thought it was an old injury that Volpe could play through when they initially got his MRI results back in May, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. Volpe has aggravated his shoulder a few times since then, including most recently this past weekend. The 24-year-old suffered the injury back in May while diving for a ball at shortstop, but he never went on the injured list and has been playing through it. It has affected him big time at the plate, as he's hit just .182/.230/.368 since the start of June. Volpe received a cortisone injection in his shoulder and is out of action for the second straight day on Thursday. With Volpe potentially going on the IL, Jose Caballero could be the team's starter at short going forward.

Zach McKinstry Still Absent Against Yankees
Zach McKinstry (back) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's game in the Bronx against the New York Yankees due to a back injury that will cause him to miss a third straight start. Javier Baez is manning shortstop and will hit ninth for Detroit against Yankees right-hander Cam Schlittler. McKinstry is considered day-to-day, with his next chance to return to the lineup coming in Friday's series opener in Miami against the Marlins. Baez has had a resurgent year at the plate in 2025 while becoming more of a utility man for the first-place Tigers, but he's hitting .143 (6-for-42) with no homers, three RBI, three runs and a 14:1 K:BB in 13 games since Aug. 1. He has one hit and three strikeouts in the first four games of September and has never faced Schlittler in his career.

Riley Adams Back Behind the Dish on Thursday
Riley Adams (groin) is back behind the plate to catch left-hander MacKenzie Gore and will bat third on Thursday against the division-rival Miami Marlins and left-hander Ryan Weathers, who is making his return from the injured list. Adams took a foul tip off a sensitive area while catching in Tuesday's game against the Fish and left the game early, but he avoided a serious injury and is back in there after being rested on Wednesday. The 29-year-old backstop continues to serve as the team's primary catcher with Keibert Ruiz (concussion) still on the injured list. Adams has a career-high eight home runs and 24 RBI in his 71 games played in his fifth year in the big leagues (fourth with the Nats). Overall, he's batting just a hair over .200 but has slashed .239/.316/.380 with five long balls since taking over for Ruiz.

Roschon Johnson Limited in Practice on Thursday
Roschon Johnson (foot) was limited in practice on Thursday with a foot injury, per Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic. Johnson did not play in the Bears' season opener against the Minnesota Vikings, and his status for Week 2 against the Detroit Lions is uncertain. D'Andre Swift was the only Chicago running back to record a rush attempt in Week 1, although Bears head coach Ben Johnson said earlier this week that he wants to get rookie back Kyle Monangai more touches going forward. Even if Roschon Johnson plays this week, he could be limited to an RB3 role on his own team. He should remain fantasy radars, but Swift managers should be aware that Johnson could vulture goal-line touches once he returns to the lineup.

DJ Moore Logs Second Consecutive Full Practice on Thursday
DJ Moore (abdomen/groin) practiced in full for the second straight day on Thursday, per The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain. Moore took a nasty hit towards the end of Chicago's Week 1 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, but it appears he is trending towards playing in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions. Moore was out-targeted by second-year Bears wideout Rome Odunze in the team's season opener, but did earn three carries, which could be an indication of an expanded role in 2025. Moore profiles as a low-end fantasy WR2/high-end WR3 this week against the Lions.
