5 days agoSan Francisco Giants outfield prospect Luis Matos is likely being called up to the majors after he was pulled from his game at Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday night. Reports have also noted that Matos is in the Giants clubhouse on Sunday. Michael Conforto (hamstring) strained his right hamstring in Saturday's game against the Cincinnati Reds and may require an IL stint once the results of his MRI come back. Matos is the likely replacement on the roster if Conforto misses time. Matos had some fantasy hype coming into the season but has had an underwhelming start to the year. He is slashing .218/.308/.355 with three homers, 17 RBI and three steals through 31 games in the minors.Source: Shayna Rubin
5 days agoChicago Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon (back) will likely make his next start on Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves. The 32-year-old was originally supposed to start this past Friday, but a stiff back prevented him from taking the mound. He was also potentially going to start Sunday's series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but he needed a few more days to get right. Taillon has pitched great when healthy in 2024, as he owns a 3-0 record to go along with a sparkling 1.13 ERA and 0.88 WHIP through four starts. He is locked into a rotation spot for the Cubs and can be treated as a top-70 starting pitcher for the remainder of the season.Source: Maddie Lee
5 days agoBaltimore Orioles starting pitcher Grayson Rodriguez (shoulder) felt good after throwing a 30-pitch bullpen session on Sunday. The talented right-hander has been sidelined for a couple weeks with right-shoulder inflammation, but he is getting closer to a return. It is unclear what is next on the schedule for Rodriguez as the Orioles have not announced if a minor-league rehab start will be required. Nevertheless, the former first-round pick is eligible to return this upcoming Wednesday and he should be back around that time frame. Rodriguez should still be rostered in all formats as he owns a 4-1 record with a 3.71 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB through six starts this season.Source: Jake Rill
5 days agoTexas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter (back) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Colorado Rockies. The 21-year-old was scratched from Saturday's lineup with stiffness in his lower back and is still not ready to return. Carter has experienced some growing pains in his rookie season as he is slashing .216/.303/.416 with five home runs, 15 RBI, 23 runs scored and two steals. Robbie Grossman will start in left field and bat sixth in Carter's absence. Grossman is an uninspiring DFS play on Sunday as he is batting .200 with no homers in 75 at-bats in 2024. He has also never recorded a hit at Coors Field in his career.Source: Texas Rangers
5 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (back) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the San Diego Padres. Ohtani was removed from Saturday's game with back tightness and is likely getting the day off to recuperate. Ohtani has been unbelievable at the plate this season, slashing a robust .352/.423/.667 with 11 home runs, 27 RBI, 33 runs scored and nine steals. It does not seem to be a significant ailment for the 29-year-old superstar, so hopefully he is back in the lineup on Monday. Will Smith will take over the DH duties against the Padres while Austin Barnes starts behind the plate.Source: Los Angeles Dodgers
5 days agoBaltimore Orioles outfielder Cedric Mullins is not in the team's starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. It is the second game in a row that Mullins has missed, which is likely due to his middling performance at the plate. The veteran speedster is slashing a disappointing .192/.244/.367 with a 33:8 K:BB, but he does have six home runs, 18 RBI and six steals. Managers in deeper leagues can hang onto Mullins a little longer, but he enters droppable territory if playing time becomes a significant concern. Colton Cowser is starting in centerfield and batting seventh with Mullins out. Cowser is also trying to bust a slump as he is batting .149 with no homers across his last 15 games.Source: Baltimore Orioles
5 days agoSt. Louis Cardinals pitcher Matthew Liberatore will start Monday's game against the Los Angeles Angels, according to manager Oliver Marmol. Liberatore is primarily used as a reliever, but he has started one other game this season. He went 3 2/3 innings in that outing against the Chicago White Sox, giving up one run on three hits with five strikeouts. The 24-year-old was once a top pitching prospect in the Cardinals season and has a five-pitch mix. His leash may not be overly long in Monday's start, but he is an alright streaming option against a Trout-less Angels offense.Source: John Denton
5 days agoSt. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado is getting his first day off of the season on Sunday in the series finale against the division-rival Milwaukee Brewers. In the first 39 games of the season, Arenado, much like the rest of St. Louis' lineup, has struggled with a career-low .703 OPS. The 33-year-old eight-time All-Star is slashing .270/.331/.372 with two home runs, nine doubles, 20 RBI and 14 runs scored in 166 plate appearances. In the first three games of the series against the Brewers, had one hit in 12 at-bats with three strikeouts. Fantasy managers will be hoping Arenado's first day off of the year can get him going. Brendan Donovan is starting at third base on Sunday and is hitting seventh against Brewers right-hander Bryse Wilson. Donovan is hitting .429 with two RBI in seven career at-bats against Wilson.Source: MLB.com - John Denton
5 days agoPhiladelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto (knee) is getting a breather on Sunday in the series finale against the Marlins in Miami after manager Rob Thomson said that Realmuto came to the ballpark and said his knee is a little banged up. Thomson said he's not worried but wanted to give the veteran starter a rest day. With Realmuto out, Garrett Stubbs will do the catching and will hit ninth of the Phils against Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett. Fantasy managers will want to check back on Monday for the series opener against the New York Mets to see if Realmuto is back in there. Those setting DFS lineups should probably ignore Stubbs as a deep sleeper at the catcher position. He's gone 3-for-22 (.136) in 2024 with no home runs and one stolen base.Source: MLB.com - Todd Zolecki
5 days agoPhiladelphia Phillies outfielder/designated hitter Kyle Schwarber (back) is not in the team's starting lineup on Mother's Day on Sunday against the Miami Marlins. Schwarber was pulled from Friday's win over the Marlins early with back soreness and was held out on Saturday. The 31-year-old left-handed slugger said he's hoping to return on either Monday or Tuesday against the New York Mets, so it doesn't appear to be a serious injury. Still, fantasy managers won't have him available for the series finale in Miami on Sunday. Bryce Harper is the DH and will hit third on Sunday, with Alec Bohm starting at first and batting second against Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett. Whit Merrifield is at the hot corner and is serving as the Phils' leadoff hitter. Schwarber continues to hit for a low average (.217) while providing high-end pop for his fantasy managers when he's in the lineup.Source: MLB.com
5 days agoHouston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is getting the day off on Mother's Day on Sunday in Detroit against the Tigers. With Altuve on the bench, Mauricio Dubon will start at second base and hit ninth in the batting order against Tigers right-hander Jack Flaherty. This will be Altuve's first day off of the season. The 34-year-old eight-time All-Star has been great this year so far with a .317/.379/.503 slash line with an .882 OPS, a league-leading 51 hits, seven home runs, 13 RBI, seven stolen bases and 26 runs scored for the Astros in 39 games played. However, he's slowed down of late, going 3-for-21 with seven strikeouts in his last five games. Dubon is hitting .274 (23-for-84) on the year but with only one home run. The 29-year-old will be a low-upside sleeper in DFS in the nine-hole for Houston in a tough matchup.Source: Houston Chronicle - Matt Kawahara
5 days agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer (illness) is in right field and is hitting in his usual leadoff spot on Sunday against the visiting Minnesota Twins and right-hander Bailey Ober. However, Kevin Kiermaier (illness) will miss his third straight game. With Kiermaier still out, Daulton Varsho is making yet another start in center field and will hit in the two-hole for Toronto. Springer will return to the lineup with a .206/.280/.298 slash line with three home runs, six RBI, six stolen bases and 13 runs scored in 157 plate appearances over 36 games. The four-time All-Star and the rest of Toronto's offense will hope to get going on Sunday on Mother's Day in Toronto. In eight career at-bats against Ober, Springer is hitting .250.Source: MLB.com
5 days agoThe Chicago Cubs activated right-hander Kyle Hendricks (back) from the 15-day injured list on Sunday and optioned pitcher Jose Cuas to Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move. Hendricks was originally expected to make one more minor-league rehab start on Sunday, but the Cubs have had a change of heart and will bring him back to close out the series against the Bucs with right-hander Jameson Taillon (back) being pushed back this weekend. The 34-year-old gave up three runs while walking three and striking out 13 in two rehab outings for Iowa in 9 1/3 innings and he will now rejoin Chicago's starting rotation. It's a good matchup against Pittsburgh, but Hendricks hasn't been a very reliable fantasy streamer. He has started the year going 0-3 with a 12.00 ERA and 2.10 WHIP in 21 innings pitched in the majors.Source: Chicago Tribune - Meghan Montemurro
5 days agoChicago Cubs third baseman Christopher Morel (knee) is back at third base and is batting cleanup for the Cubbies on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates and left-hander Bailey Falter. Morell was forced to leave Saturday's contest early in the fifth inning with right-knee soreness after sliding into second base on a stolen-base attempt. It was clearly nothing serious, though, so fantasy managers can get the 24-year-old back into their starting lineups for a good matchup against Falter. Morel is hitting just .220 (31-for-141) on the year, but he also has eight home runs, 25 RBI, four stolen bases and 21 runs scored in the middle of Chicago's batting order. He's hit .250 (6-for-24) with two of his home runs against left-handed pitching.Source: MLB.com
5 days agoThe Boston Red Sox reinstated right-hander Brayan Bello (lat) from the 15-day injured list on Sunday and optioned right-hander Josh Winckowski to Triple-A Worcester after Saturday's game in a corresponding move. Bello will return to the mound on Mother's Day to start on Sunday versus the visiting Washington Nationals. The 24-year-old was initially put on the injured list on April 24 with right-lat tightness. In his lone minor-league rehab start for Double-A Portland on Tuesday, Bello gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits while walking two and striking out five in just 2 2/3 innings. Bello went 3-1 with a solid 3.04 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in his five starts before going on the shelf and he'll have a good matchup against the Nationals, but the fact he only went 2 2/3 frames in his lone rehab start probably makes him a low-upside fantasy play in his first start back on Sunday.Source: Boston Red Sox
5 days agoCarolina Panthers rookie tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders said his goal in the NFL is to be as good as former All-Pro Greg Olsen. Sanders, a converted receiver at Texas, averaged 49.5 catches a year with the Longhorns with an average of 648 yards and 3.5 touchdowns. His role with the Panthers is not clear yet, but head coach Dave Canales said on Saturday that Sanders will play both the "F" and the "Y" roles, dependent on pass plays versus 12 personnel. "He's a guy, you can move around a little bit more, maybe play him in the slot a little bit," Canales said, adding, "we look for those versatile type of tight ends." The 21-year-old was taken with the 101st overall pick in the fourth round this year but could immediately become the team's best pass-catching tight end over both Tommy Tremble and Ian Thomas. Still, fantasy managers in single-year leagues in 2024 should temper expectations for Sanders in Carolina's offense.Source: Panthers.com - Kassidy Hill
5 days agoDenver Broncos head coach Sean Payton said he liked what he saw from rookie quarterback Bo Nix during practices at the team's rookie minicamp over the weekend. "He had two or three down the field throws [Saturday]," Payton said. "It's almost like watching a good golfer when you watch his game ... there's a patience to how he plays, the ball comes out." The Broncos took Nix 12th overall, which many thought was a massive reach, and hope he will become their next franchise signal-caller. With only Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson to compete with, Nix has a clear path to the starting job right away in his first season in the NFL, but the Broncos aren't getting ahead of themselves. "We'll figure it out, we'll figure it out ... We'll have a rotation and we'll go from there," Payton said when asked how the team's QB competition will unfold in the weeks ahead.Source: ESPN.com - Jeff Legwold
5 days agoNew England Patriots first-year head coach Jerod Mayo said that rookie quarterback Drake May, who was taken third overall in last month's NFL draft, "has a lot to work on." Saturday's practice featured a heavy emphasis on footwork fundamentals, with Maye spending the first few periods of practice taking snaps directly under center instead of the shotgun, which he mostly used the last two years at North Carolina. "The guy can sling it, man," said wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk, the second-round pick from the University of Washington. "He's very confident. He's a leader, very vocal; he's setting the tone in practice, trying to get guys moving around and operating at a high level." Maye is expected to compete with veteran Jacoby Brissett for starting duties in 2024. The Patriots aren't going to rush Maye's development, so he's more of a dynasty/keeper asset in fantasy this year than a redraft one.Source: ESPN Boston - Mike Reiss
5 days agoFree-agent tight end Tommy Sweeney signed an undisclosed deal with the Chicago Bears on Sunday after a tryout at their rookie minicamp, according to a source. Sweeney was with the New York Giants most of last year but sat out after he collapsed and had a "medical event" on the practice field. The 28-year-old was originally drafted in the seventh round (228th overall) by the Buffalo Bills in 2019 out of Boston College. All three of his NFL seasons came with Buffalo, and Sweeney has caught a total of 18 passes for 165 yards and one touchdown on 26 targets in just 24 games played (four starts). Sweeney will be competing for a roster spot in training camp this summer among a tight end group in Chicago that already includes Cole Kmet, Gerald Everett, Stephen Carlson and rookie Brenden Bates.Source: ESPN New York - Jordan Raanan
5 days agoThe New England Patriots officially named Eliot Wolf as executive vice president of player personnel on Saturday. Wolf will oversee the overall direction of the personnel department, the management of the salary cap and is in control of the 53-man roster. He's effectively the Patriots' general manager under owner Robert Kraft after previously serving as director of scouting. Wolf will essentially be taking over the role that former head coach Bill Belichick had for so long. The 42-year-old Wolf is a veteran of 20 NFL seasons with the Green Bay Packers (2004-17), Cleveland Browns (2018-19) and the Patriots (2020-23). He's entering his fifth season with the Patriots after originally joining the organization as a scouting consultant in 2020.Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
5 days agoCarolina Hurricanes center Sebastian Aho bagged his 10th point of the 2024 playoffs in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Rangers, becoming the 10th player in NHL history to reach the mark in at least six consecutive postseasons. He's the third active player in the group, joining Boston's Brad Marchand and Colorado's Mikko Rantanen. Aho has logged his 10 points with three goals and seven assists in nine games. Following a quiet start, he's put together a four-game scoring streak with a total of seven points (one goal, six assists).Source: ESPN
5 days agoNew York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin was defeated for the first time in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs on Saturday as the Carolina Hurricanes put four pucks past him. Shesterkin had a poor start by allowing three first-period goals, and he had to settle for a 4-3 defeat in the end after Carolina scored a late power-play goal. The Russian netminder saw his record drop to 7-1. After giving up seven goals in four games against Washington in the first round, Shesterkin has allowed 12 goals through four contests in Round 2. However, the Rangers still find themselves in a great position, heading into Monday's Game 5 with a 3-1 lead.Source: ESPN
5 days agoNew York Rangers center Mika Zibanejad kept his prolific form going with an assist in Saturday's 4-3 loss to Carolina. He set up Alexis Lafreniere for a game-tying goal early in the third period. Zibanejad joined Brian Leetch as the second player in Rangers history to record multiple eight-game point streaks in the playoffs. Playing in his eighth postseason game of the year, the Swedish forward also matched Mark Messier's Rangers record for the fewest games in a postseason to reach 10 assists. Zibanejad has added three goals to his helpers, posting seven of his 13 points on the power play.Source: ESPN
5 days agoCarolina Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen returned to winning ways on Saturday against the Rangers, helping the team stave off elimination in a 4-3 win. Returning to the crease after sitting out Game 3 of the second-round series, Andersen stopped 22 of 25 shots. He gave away a bad goal at the start of the third period, which allowed Alexis Lafreniere to tie the game at three, but Andersen was bailed out by a late Brady Skjei game-winner on the power play. Carolina faces another elimination game on Monday, with Andersen carrying a 5-3 record for the 2024 postseason ahead of the action. He has given up 2.63 goals with a .897 save percentage.Source: ESPN
5 days agoDenny Hamlin is a four-time winner at Darlington Raceway and has a good chance of grabbing a fifth win at "The Lady in Black" in this weekend's Goodyear 400. Among active drivers, Hamlin leads the series in wins, average finish (8.4) and laps led (978) at this track, and with the way that his No. 11 Toyota has been running this season, it's hard to imagine the Joe Gibbs Racing driver having a bad race on Sunday. In practice for the Goodyear 400 this weekend, Hamlin didn't rank very high in 15-lap average, but it's likely that something happened during that run that caused Denny to have a slow lap time, which ruined the average. He qualified seventh for this weekend's race and is a prime contender to not only challenge for the win, but also put up a big score on DraftKings. He's worth the gamble at his $11,500 salary on the DFS platform.Source: DriverAverages
5 days agoColorado Avalanche goaltender Alexandar Georgiev enjoyed a good outing on Saturday against Dallas but still had to suffer a defeat. He was beaten for the third time in these playoffs after allowing two goals on 21 shots. The Stars grabbed a 2-1 series lead with a 4-1 win, hitting two empty-net goals late in the contest. Georgiev has suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time in the 2024 postseason. He's been in very inconsistent form, posting a 2.97 goals-against average with a lowly .893 save percentage, despite allowing two or fewer goals in half of his eight starts.Source: ESPN
5 days agoColorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon went 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 8-3 win over the Rangers. While all four hits were singles, the 29-year-old is having a fine season so far, slashing .303/.391/.462 with five home runs, 21 RBI, and 16 runs scored. The former second-round MLB draft pick has a strong 14.1% Barrel% and is walking at a good rate (12.9%). A .419 BABIP is unsustainable and suggests his batting average will see a decline, but a solid season like he's seen the prior three years with 20-plus home runs and a .250-.260 range for batting average looks likely again.Source: ESPN
5 days agoLook for Tyler Reddick to lead early and often in the Goodyear 400 this weekend. Reddick qualified his No. 45 Toyota on the pole for this weekend's race at Darlington, a track where he has finished third or better in three of the four races in the Next Gen era. Reddick led 90 laps the last time the Cup Series raced at "The Lady in Black" and his 23XI Toyota showed good speed in practice this weekend as well. As far as DFS playability goes on Sunday, Reddick is a prime option on DraftKings with his $10,300 salary, as he should contend for a top-five finish and should also gobble up early dominator points since he starts on the pole. 5 days agoColorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon was back on the score sheet in Saturday's Game 3 loss against Dallas. After finishing scoreless for the first time in the 2024 playoffs in Game 2 of the series, MacKinnon had an assist on Colorado's lone goal in a 4-1 defeat Saturday night. The seven-time All-Star went pointless just two times at home during the regular season and has also enjoyed his home outings in the playoffs. He's tallied 12 points (three goals, nine assists) in eight postseason games, notching five points (one goal, four assists) in three home appearances.Source: ESPN
5 days agoDallas Stars forward Jamie Benn notched an assist in Saturday's 4-1 win to extend his point streak to three games. He collected the helper when Tyler Seguin scored an empty-net goal late in the contest. Benn has started to heat up in the playoffs after recording only one point in his previous five appearances. He's managed seven points (two goals, five assists) in 10 games for the entire 2024 postseason campaign.Source: ESPN
