Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins (thumb) has been on the injured list with a Grade 2 left thumb sprain since July 7. He has progressed to on-field hitting and defensive work as well. Hoskins is still on track to begin a rehab assignment in late August and could return to the Brewers' active roster in September. Andrew Vaughn has been filling in at first for the Brewers, posting a 1.055 OPS through his first 27 games, and has helped Milwaukee rack up a 12-game winning streak. When Hoskins returns, he could still slot in as the team's designated hitter after posting a .242 batting average with 12 home runs and 42 RBI before landing on the injured list.--Dr. Reuven GuySource: mlb.com

Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said the team is still working through the plan for some of their players for their second preseason game on Friday against the Kansas City Chiefs, but he did confirm that quarterback Sam Darnold will be among those that play. "Our guys are going start the game out," Macdonald said. "We'll see how long it goes." Darnold has looked good in his first training camp with the Seahawks and will now try to transfer that over to game action for probably a couple of series on Friday. The 28-year-old former third overall pick in 2018 by the New York Jets out of USC has been a late bloomer in his NFL. He finally broke out as Minnesota's starter last year, throwing for a career-best 4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns and 12 picks in 17 regular-season starts. It was a cool story, but Darnold is unlikely to come close to matching those numbers in Seattle. RotoBaller has him ranked as the QB27.--Keith HernandezSource: ESPN.com - Brady Henderson

The Athletic's Jesse Newell thinks it might be too aggressive to list Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyquan Thornton as a lock for the 53-man roster, but he writes that it's clear that the Chiefs "love Thornton and envision a role for him this season." Thornton has taken off since joining the team's practice squad last year. KC coaches love the 25-year-old's speed, and he seems to fit the role that Justin Watson played for the Chiefs the last three years. He has the speed to get deep downfield to occupy defenders and can also be a solid contributor on special teams. Newell adds that Thornton should be involved in the team's kickoff return game, and he's also being trained as a gunner on the punt team. On offense, Thornton is most likely to be more of a gadget player, at best, and he's still too buried on KC's receiver depth chart to turn heads in fantasy.--Keith HernandezSource: The Athletic - Jesse Newell

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Mike Gesicki (hamstring) is still working his way back from a hamstring injury at training camp and was working on a rehab field on Wednesday, according to Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer. A hamstring injury has kept Gesicki out of practices for the last week, and he also missed the preseason opener versus the Philadelphia Eagles last week. The 29-year-old's hamstring injury isn't believed to be all that serious, but the Bengals could hold him out of their second preseason game on Monday against the Washington Commanders as a precaution. Cincy recently signed Noah Fant for TE depth, but when healthy, Gesicki should be the primary pass-catching tight end for the Bengals. He caught 65 of 83 targets for 665 yards and two touchdowns in 17 games (three starts) a year ago and is ranked as a low-end TE2 in fantasy for the upcoming season.--Keith HernandezSource: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Kelsey Conway

With Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Jaydon Blue (heel) still sidelined from Tuesday's training camp practice, it allowed Deuce Vaughn to work with the first-team offense, according to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News. Vaughn had a good day by showing lateral movements to make defenders miss in space. The 23-year-old is slippery in space because of his quickness and size (5-foot-6, 176 pounds), but Vaughn is still fighting an uphill battle to be involved out of Dallas' backfield in 2025. The former sixth-round pick (212th overall) in 2023 out of Kansas State has a combined 40 rushing attempts for 110 yards and no touchdowns while adding 10 receptions for 58 yards in the passing game in his two seasons in the NFL with the Cowboys. At best, he'll open his third season as the RB4 behind Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders and Blue.--Keith HernandezSource: Dallas Morning News - Calvin Watkins

Cleveland Browns quarterback Kenny Pickett (hamstring) remained limited to seven-on-seven drills during training camp practice on Wednesday, according to Browns beat writer Kelsey Russo. Pickett entered training camp as the primary competition for veteran Joe Flacco for the starting role entering Week 1, but he injured his hamstring on July 26 and hasn't taken part in team drills since then. He also missed the preseason opener last Thursday and probably will not play this Saturday in the second preseason contest versus the Philadelphia Eagles. It doesn't sound like it's an injury that will keep Pickett sidelined into the regular season, but he's effectively already lost the QB battle to Flacco. The Browns have one of the weakest and most beat up QB rooms in the league with rookies Dillon Gabriel (hamstring) and Shedeur Sanders (oblique) also nursing injuries.--Keith HernandezSource: ClevelandBrowns.com - Kelsey Russo

Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Endy Rodriguez (wrist) underwent successful season-ending surgery this week, according to Alex Stumpf. This is a shame considering Rodriguez underwent Tommy John surgery last year. He only managed to play in 18 games for the Pirates this season, but figures to be ready for spring training. The Pirates do have high hopes for Rodriguez who does offer good upside with the bat. However, he figures to compete for playing time with Joey Bart and Henry Davis for playing time in Pittsburgh next season.--Andy WebbSource: Alex Stumpf

Baltimore Orioles outfielders Colton Cowser (concussion) and Tyler O'Neill (wrist) aren't quite ready to return from the injured list yet. On Wednesday, O's interim manager Tony Mansolino said Cowser won't be activated from the 7-day concussion list when first eligible on Thursday. The left-handed slugger is still going through concussion protocol, so he can't be activated until he has cleared that. As for O'Neill, he'll likely be sidelined until late August or early September. He's eligible to be activated off the injured list this weekend, but hasn't been making great progress in his recovery from his right wrist injury. He'll likely require a rehab assignment before being cleared to return to the O's lineup. Fantasy managers shouldn't be shocked if O'Neill is out until early September.--Andy WebbSource: Jacob Calvin Meyer

Atlanta Braves third baseman Austin Riley (abdominal) reportedly felt discomfort while doing some throwing on Tuesday. The hope was that Riley and Ronald Acuna Jr. (calf) would both be able to return from the injured list this week. Now, it seems unlikely that Riley is going to return to play when first eligible to come off the injured list on Thursday. Given the setback, it's possible that Riley does require a rehab assignment before returning to the Braves lineup. The Braves haven't given much information on that, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect Riley back in the lineup this weekend. Fantasy managers should check back throughout the week for more updates.--Andy WebbSource: Mark Bowman

ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi reports that Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco is unlikely to play in the team's second preseason game this Saturday against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Browns want to keep the veteran out, even though both rookie Shedeur Sanders (oblique) and Kenny Pickett (hamstring) might not play. Although nothing official has been announced, rookie Dillon Gabriel (hamstring) could make his NFL debut and see extensive run this weekend for the Browns. Flacco was scheduled to take the majority of first-team reps at training camp practice on Wednesday, and he remain the overwhelming favorite to be named the Week 1 starter, especially with Pickett missing over a week of team drills due to a hamstring injury. The 40-year-old gunslinger could have some decent games, but he'll also be injury-prone and on a short leash. Fantasy managers would be better off avoiding the Browns' QB situation.--Keith HernandezSource: ESPN.com - Daniel Oyefusi

Houston Astros designated hitter Yordan Alvarez (hand) is scheduled to take live batting practice this weekend, according to Brian McTaggart. This is big news as it'll be the first time that Alvarez has faced live pitching since suffering a setback with his fractured hand over a month ago. If everything goes well, Alvarez should be cleared to go on a minor league rehab assignment after this session. He has been sidelined since early May, so he figures to need a handful of games before he's ready to rejoin the Astros lineup. The hope is that Alvarez is ready to rejoin Houston by the end of August. Fantasy managers should continue to hold Alvarez on their IR with his return on the horizon.--Andy WebbSource: Brian McTaggart

With Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders (oblique) now unlikely to play in the second preseason game on Saturday against the Philadelphia Eagles, rookie Dillon Gabriel (hamstring) now has a chance to start this weekend and get extended time in his first taste of NFL action, according to Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN. The Browns are likely to keep veteran Joe Flacco out again, while Kenny Pickett (hamstring) still hasn't return to team drills in practices. Along with Gabriel, Tyler Huntley should see plenty of run for the second straight preseason game with the team's QB room pretty banged up. The 24-year-old Gabriel was listed as the QB3 on the team's second unofficial depth chart of the preseason, but he's reportedly been outplayed by Sanders so far this summer as the two young signal-callers merely try to prove they belong on the team beyond the 2025 season.--Keith HernandezSource: ESPN.com - Daniel Oyefusi

Houston Astros relief pitcher Josh Hader (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with a left-shoulder strain. On Wednesday, Astros' manager Joe Espada said Hader will seek a second opinion on his left shoulder strain. He continued by saying that Hader will be out longer than two weeks. The team didn't reveal what the first diagnosis was, but it was bad enough for the southpaw to get another opinion. It's unclear if fantasy managers are going to get anything from Hader the rest of the way. That being said, Bryan Abreu figures to be the favorite for saves in Houston going forward. He should be rostered in most fantasy formats where saves matter.--Andy WebbSource: Brian McTaggart

The New Orleans Saints placed wide receiver Bub Means (leg) on season-ending Injured Reserve on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Means suffered a serious lower-leg injury in the preseason opener against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday and will now miss the entire 2025 season. Before his injury on Sunday, he caught one pass for a gain of 12 yards. It's definitely a blow to the Saints receiving corps after the 24-year-old fifth-rounder last year caught nine of his 15 targets for 118 yards and one touchdown in seven games (one start) in his rookie season. Means also missed the final nine games of his first year in the league with an ankle injury, so he has quickly developed an injury-prone label. Means will now rehab his leg in hopes of being ready for the start of the 2026 season.--Keith HernandezSource: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Mark Carman of CHGO Sports reports that Chicago Bears second-year wide receiver Rome Odunze looks like quarterback Caleb Williams' go-to guy in practice on Wednesday, especially in the red zone. Carman adds that Odunze and Williams continued to work together after practice. There was a lot of disappointment in the Bears offense last year in Williams' and Odunze's first NFL season. Odunze finished with only 54 catches on 101 targets for 734 yards and three touchdowns in 17 games (12 starts). It wasn't a bad showing, but he was inconsistent for fantasy purposes. The 23-year-old could be in line for a Year 2 breakout with Keenan Allen gone and in new head coach Ben Johnson's offense, with his goal being his first 1,000-yard season and double-digit TDs. That would be amazing for fantasy managers that draft him as a WR3/flex with upside in 2025.--Keith HernandezSource: CHGO Sport - Mark Carman

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that outfielder George Springer (concussion) has cleared the league's concussion protocol, and barring something unforeseen, will begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday, likely as the designated hitter. Springer might also need an extra game in the outfield after that with the Bisons. The 35-year-old veteran went on the seven-day concussion injured list on Aug. 1 but could be ready to rejoin the Blue Jays this weekend for their series at Rogers Centre against the Texas Rangers. When he returns, Springer should be Toronto's primary DH while also seeing some playing time in left field. He's been worth stashing in all fantasy formats during his resurgent 2025 campaign in which he's slashing .291/.383/.506 with an .889 OPS, 18 home run, 57 RBI, 66 runs and 12 steals in 101 games.--Keith HernandezSource: Sportsnet.ca - Shi Davidi

The New York Mets reinstated right-hander Paul Blackburn (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list on Wednesday and optioned pitcher Jusin Hagenman to Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move, according to Laura Albanese of Newsday. Blackburn threw 97 pitches in his final minor-league rehab outing last Friday and is fully stretched out should manager Carlos Mendoza need another rotation arm down the stretch. Struggling right-hander Frankie Montas has been sent to the bullpen, although prospect Nolan McLean is going to get the first shot at taking Montas' spot in his MLB debut on Saturday against the Seattle Mariners. If McLean struggles and is sent down after that, Blackburn could be the next man up for starts in New York. Blackburn isn't a big upside pitcher for fantasy and has not looked good for the Mets since being acquired in a midseason trade in 2024.--Keith HernandezSource: Newsday - Laura Albanese

The Detroit Tigers activated right-hander Sawyer Gipson-Long (neck) from the 15-day injured list on Wednesday and optioned Codi Heuer to Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move, according to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press. Gipson-Long will return to the big-league level after being out since the middle of July with a neck injury. The 27-year-old made five appearances (two starts) for the Tigers earlier this season and allowed 13 runs (12 earned) on 21 hits (four homers) while walking four and striking out 18 in 23 frames. Gipson-Long allowed two runs in 7 1/3 innings on his minor-league rehab assignment this month before being activated. He was not a high-end prospect in Detroit's system but impressed in his rookie year in 2023 with a 2.70 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in only four starts. Gipson-Long won't have any fantasy appeal in a long-relief role.--Keith HernandezSource: Detroit Free Press - Evan Petzold

Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola (ankle, rib) will work out at Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednessday and will then meet the team in Washington D.C. for their series this weekend, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Lochlahn March. Manager Rob Thomson hasn't announced his starter for Sunday's series finale against the division-rival Washington Nationals, so it's possible that Nola could take that start. The 32-year-old built up to 84 pitches in his third minor-league rehab start for Lehigh Valley on Tuesday and gave up two runs while walking none and striking out 11 in 5 2/3 innings of work, so it appears he's ready to return to the big leagues. Nola has looked much more like himself on his rehab assignment, giving hope for fantasy managers that he can bounce back after sporting a 1-7 record, 6.16 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in nine starts before landing on the injured list.--Keith HernandezSource: Philadelphia Inquirer - Lochlahn March

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said that the same players who didn't play at all in the preseason opener last week against the Indianapolis Colts won't play in their second preseason tilt versus the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday, either. It means that key starters like quarterback Lamar Jackson won't be suiting up. Backup Cooper Rush could get more than a quarter of action this weekend. The 28-year-old Jackson didn't play at all last preseason, so don't be surprised if the same thing happens this year after he threw for a career-high 4,172 yards, 41 touchdowns and only four interceptions in 17 regular-season games a year ago. The four-time Pro Bowler and two-time MVP is at the top of his game and is a high-end, dual-threat QB1 for fantasy managers in 2025. Jackson isn't dealing with any sort of injury this summer.--Keith HernandezSource: FOX Sports Baltimore - Morgan Adsit

Cincinnati Reds infield prospect Sal Stewart homered in a 1-for-3 day at the plate for Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. He also walked twice, recorded one RBI, and scored two runs in the contest. The Reds' top-ranked prospect is now riding a six-game hit streak for the Bats, while hitting safely in 19 of the 22 games he's played so far at Triple-A. The result is a .313/.383/.614 slash line while recording nearly as many walks (10) as strikeouts (12). For the season, the 21-year-old is slashing .308/.378/.504 with 29 doubles, 15 home runs, and 16 stolen bases in 102 games. With the type of success he's had, it wouldn't be a surprise to see a late-season call-up in September, but whether that happens or not, the right-handed slugger should have a fantasy impact at some point next year.--Jarod RuppSource: MiLB.com

Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders (oblique) is not expected to play in the team's second preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to NFL insider Ari Meirov. Sanders suffered an oblique injury on Wednesday and is considered "day-to-day." The fifth-round pick out of Colorado flashed in his preseason debut against the Carolina Panthers, completing 14 of his 23 passing attempts for 138 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. Missing this week's game is not ideal for his development, and he's still likely behind Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel when all Cleveland quarterbacks are healthy. Fantasy managers can stash him in deep dynasty leagues, but it would be a surprise if he's a viable starting quarterback in 2025 redraft leagues.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBallerSource: Ari Meirov -- 33rd Team

Miami Dolphins linebacker Chop Robinson (undisclosed) was carted off the field after suffering an undisclosed injury during Wednesday's joint practice with the Detroit Lions. However, the No. 21 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Penn State took to Instagram and said, "I'm good, nothing serious." This is good news for Robinson and the Dolphins, as the team is hoping he will take a Year-2 leap after posting 26 tackles (16 solo), six sacks, and four pass deflections in 17 regular-season games as a rookie. Robinson is expected to start opposite Bradley Chubb entering 2025.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBallerSource: Adam Schefter

The Chicago White Sox announced on Wednesday that they reinstated left-hander Martin Perez (elbow) from the 60-day injured list and optioned left-hander Cam Booser to Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. In addition, the team also designated left-hander Jared Shuster for assignment. Perez made only two minor-league rehab starts and gave up three runs while striking out five and walking three in 6 2/3 innings pitched. The 34-year-old veteran southpaw has not pitched in the big leagues since late April due to a flexor strain in his left elbow, and he will return to Chicago in a long-relief role. Perez was already not much to look at in fantasy outside of AL-only leagues, and now that he's returning to a bullpen role, he can pretty much be ignored everywhere. In four starts before his injury, Perez had a decent 3.15 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 18 K's and 11 walks in 20 innings.--Keith HernandezSource: Chicago White Sox

New England Patriots tight end Hunter Henry (undisclosed) did not practice on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss. The veteran has been absent from practice since suffering an undisclosed injury on Sunday. For now, not much is known about the ailment, but Reiss said Henry could also miss Thursday's practice. The 30-year-old has never been a high-end fantasy TE1 with the Los Angeles Chargers or Patriots, but he's often been a steady streaming option, and he could have upside as quarterback Drake Maye's safety blanket in the short and intermediate passing game. Given the lack of established weapons at wide receiver, Henry can be viewed as a later-round flier or TE2 option in deep leagues. Fantasy managers should continue to check back for his latest injury updates.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBallerSource: Mike Reiss -- ESPN

Chicago White Sox outfield prospect Braden Montgomery went 2-for-4 with a walk, a pair of doubles, two RBI, and three runs scored on Tuesday for Double-A Birmingham. It was the second straight multi-hit game for Chicago's top-ranked prospect, now slashing .260/.327/.380 through 13 games for the Barons, and slashing .268/.354/.445 with 12 home runs and 13 steals on the year. The switch-hitter should get to Triple-A next year and will be knocking on the door to the majors. With the well-rounded toolset he possesses, there is certainly some fantasy appeal that the 22-year-old could bring to the table whenever he arrives.--Jarod RuppSource: MiLB.com

New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson (undisclosed) remains out of action during Wednesday's practice due to an undisclosed injury. The fifth-year back out of Oklahoma is reportedly dealing with something minor, but it's not clear what is causing him to sit out. Stevenson played against the Washington Commanders last week, piling up 36 yards on seven rushing attempts. With rookie second-round pick TreVeyon Henderson continuing to impress, Stevenson missing time is far from ideal. That said, Henderson and Stevenson have different skill sets and could be set to play in a pure committee entering the 2025 regular season. If Henderson shines as an explosive playmaker, Stevenson's touches could begin to dwindle down the stretch.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBallerSource: Mike Reiss -- ESPN

The Arizona Diamondbacks placed right-hander Anthony DeSclafani (thumb) on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday with right-thumb inflammation and recalled right-hander Casey Kelly from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move, according to Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports. The veteran DeSclafani has made only 11 appearances (four starts) for the Snakes in 2025 after not pitching at all in the big leagues in 2024. The 35-year-old recently moved to Arizona's starting rotation after they traded right-hander Merrill Kelly away at the July 31 deadline. He didn't go deep in his last two starts against the Padres and Rangers but was decent, giving up only two runs while fanning seven in 7 1/3 innings pitched. DeSclafani will now miss at least the next two weeks, and it's unclear who might take his rotation spot in the desert.--Keith HernandezSource: Arizona Sports - Alex Weiner

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise Brown (foot/ankle) will not play on Friday in the team's second preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. The former Baltimore Raven and Arizona Cardinal has been out of action for the last two weeks after suffering foot and ankle injuries. Unfortunately, injuries have become a common theme for Brown since he left Baltimore via trade. After missing eight games in two seasons with the Cardinals, he missed 15 games in his first season with Kansas City a year ago. "Hollywood" has tantalizing big-play upside and speed that could fit perfectly with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, but his inability to stay on the field is becoming a significant concern. Fantasy managers considering drafting him in the later rounds should continue to monitor his status ahead of the thick of fantasy draft season.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBallerSource: Nate Taylor

Kansas City Royals left-hander Bailey Falter will move to the bullpen with right-hander Michael Lorenzen (oblique) returning from the injured list for this weekend's series against the division-rival Chicago White Sox, according to manager Matt Quatraro. Rookie right-hander Ryan Bergert will remain in the rotation and make his next start in Sunday's series finale. Falter, who began the year with the Pittsburgh Pirates before being acquired by KC at the trade deadline, allowed nine earned runs on 11 hits (two home runs) while walking five and striking out seven in eight innings in his two starts for the Royals after the trade. The 28-year-old southpaw has a career-low 5.7 K/9 in his 24 total starts in 2025 and will lose what little fantasy value he had left with his move to a relief role for the Royals.--Keith HernandezSource: MLB.com - Anne Rogers
