The San Diego Padres announced on Tuesday that chairman and owner Peter Seidler passed away at the age of 63. Seidler had elevated the Padres to national prominence with financial commitments in the hundreds of millions but didn't get to see the team win a World Series. He was a two-time cancer survivor and revealed in a statement on Sept. 18 that he had undergone a medical procedure the prior month that would prevent him from attending any games for the rest of 2023. Majority ownership of the Padres remains in the Seidler family moving forward. Under Seidler's watch in San Diego, the Friars ended a 14-year postseason drought when they made the playoffs in the shortened 2020 season, and they advanced all the way to the NLCS in 2022.
