Mets To Keep Negotiations With Pete Alonso Private
1 year agoThe New York Mets are going to keep contract negotiations with All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso private. "While we understand the media and public interest in player contract situations, we strongly believe in keeping those conversations private. Any circulating reports do not accurately reflect our conversations with Pete," general manager Billy Eppler said in a statement. There have been rumors floating around that Alonso is seeking a 10-year deal from the Mets. The 28-year-old may not get a contract that long, but he's surely going to be paid handsomely eventually. Alonso has hit only .221 (116-for-524) in his fifth year with the Mets in 2023, but he also has 45 home runs, 112 RBI, four steals and 87 runs scored in 143 games. He's now topped 40 home runs and 100 RBI for the third time in five big-league seasons.
