Mets Reach Out To DJ LeMahieu
4 years agoThe New York Mets recently reached out to free-agent second baseman DJ LeMahieu, which could set up a battle between the Mets and Yankees for the Yankees best player the last two seasons. Re-signing LeMahieu is the Yankees top offseason priority, but there's a sizable gap in contract talks, leaving the door open for another team to swoop in. There was speculation that the Mets could go after LeMahieu after Robinson Cano was suspended for all of the 2021 season last month, clearing more than $20 million from the team's 2021 payroll. The Blue Jays, Nationals and Dodgers have also been linked to LeMahieu, but the 32-year-old reportedly wants to stay in New York. Under new owner Steve Cohen, the Mets are looking to challenge the Yankees supremacy in New York, and prying LeMahieu away from them would be a great start for them.
