Mariners To Use Six-Man Rotation For Start Of Season
4 years agoThe Seattle Mariners will use a six-man starting rotation to begin the delayed 2020 season at the end of July. Some starters will get piggy-backed. Marco Gonzales is expected to be the team's Opening Day arm, followed by the likes of Yusei Kikuchi, Justus Sheffield, Kendall Graveman and Taijuan Walker. Justin Dunn, Nestor Cortes and Wei-Yin Chen could be used as openers or to piggy back pitchers like Sheffield, Graveman and Walker. Walker, in particular, could have many of his starts shortened early in the season while he makes his way back from an arm injury that has limited him to just four starts in the last two seasons. It remains to be seen if top pitching prospects like Logan Gilbert will get a shot at starts later in the season.
