Marcus Stroman Opts Out Of Deal With Cubs
1 year agoChicago Cubs right-hander Marcus Stroman has opted out of his contract and will become a free agent this offseason. Stroman had $21 million left and one year left on his deal with Chicago, but he will pass it up and look for a more lucrative deal on the free-agent market after going 10-9 with a 3.95 ERA (3.58 FIP) and 1.26 WHIP while walking 52 and striking out 119 in 136 2/3 innings over 27 outings (25 starts) in 2023 in his second year in Chicago. The 32-year-old had his highest ERA since 2018 but still made his second career All-Star team with the Cubs last season. He had a career-high 3.4 walks per nine innings. Stroman isn't in his prime anymore, but he'll attract plenty of interest on the open market and should be in play as a back-end fantasy starter in 2024.
