Kyle Larson of Hendrick Motorsports had an up-and-down performance in Sunday's FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway that ended with a quality finish of fifth. Larson began Sunday's race from the fifth position, but did not have much happen to him in the first stage outside of nearly wrecking with Denny Hamlin on lap 58. He finished seventh at the end of the first stage and acquired three stage points. In the second stage, Larson kept himself out of trouble, but could not effectively make use of pit strategy to remain in the top 10. He finished stage two in the 12th position and was unable to score stage points. In the final stage, Larson put himself back into contention for the win after a few cautions made him restart in the top three. Despite voltage issues earlier in the stage, Larson briefly inherited the lead before losing it to Carson Hocevar on lap 152. The No. 5 Chevrolet driver fell back further from there, but maintained a top-5 position the rest of the way until the finish. Larson finished where he started and placed in the fifth position by the end of the race, matching his best finish in the Next-Gen car at Michigan.--Sean Engel - RotoBaller
