Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson (upper body) won't play in Saturday's matchup against the New Jersey Devils, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports. He was initially regarded as a game-time decision for the contest. Carlson has recently put together a five-game point streak and remains a highly productive player even during his 17th NHL campaign. In 17 outings, Carlson has produced 14 points (four goals, 10 assists). The veteran blue-liner also ranks third on the Washington team with 26 blocks, so his presence will be missed at both ends on Saturday night. Trevor van Riemsdyk will rejoin the Capitals blue line against New Jersey after sitting out a pair of contests as a healthy scratch.--Taavi Pailk
