Joe Alt to Have Season-Ending Ankle Surgery

The Athletic's Daniel Popper reports that the Los Angeles Chargers announced on Monday that left tackle Joe Alt (ankle) will have season-ending right-ankle surgery after suffering another high-ankle sprain on Sunday in the Week 9 win over the Tennessee Titans. Alt had to be carted off the field in Tennessee in the second quarter and will not play again this year. The 22-year-old initially injured the ankle in the Week 4 loss to the New York Giants, but the former fifth overall pick was able to return to action in the Week 8 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday Night Football. It's a big blow to L.A.'s offensive line and for the protection of quarterback Justin Herbert the rest of the way. Herbert was running for his life when Alt missed Weeks 5-7, so this could be really bad news for the Bolts' offense. Jamaree Salyer should take over at left tackle going forward.
