Gus Edwards 2019 Outlook: Buried in the Ravens Depth Chart
6 years agoThe 2018 season was a tale of two parts for Gus Edwards, who was largely an unnoticed prospect early in the season, having been an undrafted free agent pickup by the Ravens. Prior to the bye week, Edwards was rarely used with only 15 total carries. However, after the bye week, he was the 22nd best back in fantasy, and one of the most heavily used, averaging 17.4 carries a game. His total production in the second half of the year came out as 122 carries for 654 yards. The only downside was his passing game usage, with just one target in that time span, limiting his value in PPR formats. His second half usage gives the impression that he could be the back to own in this offense moving forward right? Wrong. The Ravens added Mark Ingram in the offseason as well as drafting Justice Hill to work in this expected run heavy attack. As the summer progresses, you are likely to see Edwards ADP continue to fall, making him a low-owned option in redraft. In fact, I would not expect to see him drafted at all and become waiver wire fodder throughout most of the season in 2019. He will only see value if an injury occurs to Ingram.
