Gary Sanchez Likely Out 8-10 Weeks
Gary Sanchez (knee) will likely miss eight to 10 weeks with a PCL sprain in his right knee, Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com reports. Sanchez hit the 10-day IL earlier on Tuesday, though there was no indication the injury was this severe. Based on the timeline, he won't return until sometime in September, if at all. The Orioles guaranteed Sanchez $8.5 million on a one-year deal in free agency, but this has turned into an injury-wrecked season for him. Before spraining his knee, Sanchez missed all of May and half of June with wrist inflammation. When healthy, Sanchez has batted a decent .231/.297/.418 with five home runs and 24 RBI in 101 plate appearances. Along with Adley Rutschman, Maverick Handley, and Chadwick Tromp, Sanchez is one of a staggering four Orioles catchers on the IL. They're forced to rely on Jacob Stallings and Alex Jackson behind the plate as a result.
