Frank Schwindel 2022 Player Outlook: Power Bat Looking To Build Off 2021
3 years agoChicago Cubs first baseman Frank Schwindel was a revelation down the stretch for fantasy managers last year. He was claimed off waivers by the Cubs in July, then went on to become one of the team's best hitters over the final months of the season. He played in a total of 56 games for the Cubs and slashed .342/.389/.613 with 13 home runs, 19 doubles, 40 RBI and 42 runs; that production equates to a 162-game pace of about 37 home runs, 115 RBI and 121 runs. His season-long advanced stats weren't quite as impressive (.454 xSLG, .272 xBA, 86.9 mph average exit velocity), but they weren't anything to scoff at either. Schwindel is 29 years old and had been stuck in the minor leagues for the bulk of his career prior to last season. He regularly compiled some impressive minor league stats, so it's a bit surprising that it took him so long to splash in the majors. Schwindel is well worthy of drafting at his current ADP, right outside the top-200, in case he can build off of last year's strong production.
