Joe Gibbs Racing's Denny Hamlin became the winner of this past weekend's FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Hamlin started the race from the third position and ran there throughout the entire first stage. He won eight stage points as he finished third at the end of stage one. In stage two, Hamlin continued to run inside the top five until lap 58 when he turned and got loose to the point of nearly crashing. This caused Hamlin to spend the rest of the stage recovering. The No. 11 Toyota driver almost returned to the top five, but settled for eighth by the end of the second stage, earning three stage points. In the final stage, Hamlin made it back to the top five through pit stops and made sure to start saving fuel during the last green flag run. This made the difference as he pushed forward through drivers who would still be short on making it to the end on fuel. By lap 197, Hamlin made it to William Byron who was leading the race, and passed him for the victory as he made it to the checkered flag a few laps later. Hamlin's win at Michigan was the third of his Cup career at the site, the 57th overall, and the third of the season.--Sean Engel - RotoBaller
