The San Diego Padres are adding third-rounder Cole Wilcox to their player pool on Friday. The Padres just signed Wilcox to a record-breaking signing bonus for a third-round pick this week to persuade him not to return to college at Georgia. If it weren't for signability issues, the right-handed pitcher would've gone in the first round of last month's draft. Wilcox had some of the best pure stuff in this year's class, with his fastball sitting in the 92-97 mph range, sometimes reaching triple digits on the radar gun. His mid-80s offspeed pitches can both become plus pitches, too. There are questions about whether his future role will be as a starter or reliever, but the 20-year-old should move quickly through the system. His placement in the player pool is most likely for developmental purposes this year.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerRead More News
