Cole Hamels Expected To Be Ready For Start Of Season
4 years agoAtlanta Braves starting pitcher Cole Hamels (shoulder) is expected to be ready for the start of the 60-game 2020 season in late July, according to general manager Alex Anthopoulos. It's usually not a good sign when a 36-year-old develops shoulder issues in the spring, but Hamels has had time to recover because of COVID-19 and should open the season in the rotation, barring a setback in spring training 2.0. The veteran southpaw can still provide a useful strikeout rate for fantasy owners, but he struggled with walks with the Cubs last year for a career-worst 3.6 BB/9. He was being ignored in a lot of spring drafts because of his shoulder injury, but Hamels could actually be a nice late-round flier in deeper leagues in this shortened season.
