Colorado Rockies shortstop and top prospect Brendan Rodgers had a killer day for the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats on Sunday. He went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI in a 12-4 rout over the Portland Sea Dogs. Rodgers is now hitting .298 on the season with six home runs and 22 RBI in 27 games. Unfortunately, Rodgers’ timeline on reaching the majors remains hazy because his natural positions of shortstop and third base are locked down by young stars Trevor Story and Nolan Arenado. He’s moved to second base for some work, but with DJ LeMahieu having a strong season so far, it’s unclear if Colorado would try to re-sign him for another year. Without injuries, Rodgers may just be joining the cadre of top Rockies prospects who seem to be ready for the big time but are instead patiently waiting in the minors.--Billy Stonick - RotoBaller
