Brandin Cooks Restructures Deal
4 years agoThe Houston Texans restructured wide receiver Brandin Cooks' deal to create $6.53 million in salary cap space on Thursday. Cooks was previously scheduled for a $12 million salary cap hit, but the restructure likely converts most of his 2021 base salary into a signing bonus. The 27-year-old pass-catcher rebounded from a disappointing season in his last year with the Rams in 2019 to record his fifth 1,000-yard season in 2020 in his first season with the Texans. It helped that the Texans shipped All-Pro wideout DeAndre Hopkins out of town, giving Cooks more opportunities. It's hard to argue with Cooks' value after he has recorded 1,000 yards in five of the last six seasons, but his fantasy stock could plummet if quarterback Deshaun Watson is dealt this offseason.
