Boston Scott 2022 Player Outlook: Lined Up For Supporting Role In Dominant Rush Offense
3 years agoPhiladelphia Eagles running back Boston Scott provided some fantasy value at various points during the 2021 season. His top performance came in Week 8 against the Detroit Lions as he rushed for 60 yards and two scores on 12 caries while the Eagles routed the Lions 44-6. The Eagles had the NFL's top rushing offense in 2021, averaging 159.7 rushing yards per game. About a third of those yards came from quarterback Jalen Hurts, but the team managed to find a great deal of success through other methods on the ground as well. Scott was third amongst Eagles running backs in rushing yards with 373 on the year, but he led all Eagles running backs in rushing touchdowns with seven. By just about all metrics, Scott's efficiency was down in 2021 as compared to 2020. He averaged 4.3 yards per carry last year (down from 4.7 in 2020) and 6.4 yards per reception (down from 8.5 in 2020). Miles Sanders is set to lead the way for the Eagles backfield in 2022, which leaves Scott in a competition for the No. 2 back role alongside Kenneth Gainwell, who is entering his second NFL season. Gainwell provided much more utility in the passing game than Scott did last year, so he appears to have more of a clear path to touches at this point than Scott. Scott needs another Sanders injury to become an intriguing fantasy commodity and even in that event, it's unlikely he'd see enough usage to become a reliable fantasy option.
