NHL DFS Lineup Picks (3/25/16): FanDuel & DraftKings Daily Fantasy Hockey Advice

Barry Leonard's DFS advice for 3/25/16. Daily Fantasy Hockey Lineup Picks and sleepers for FanDuel & DraftKings NHL cash games and GPPs.

Welcome to the Daily Fantasy Hockey (NHL DFS) lineup picks article for March 25th of the 2015/2016 NHL season. Each day we'll be providing you with a handful of forward, defensemen, and goaltender picks for DraftKings and FanDuel GPP and cash games.

Tonight brings a very light night of NHL action with just three games scheduled. Despite the lack of games, there are still some very solid choices available for daily fantasy lineups.

The Washington Capitals have wrapped up the top seed in the Eastern Conference, but are still playing to lock up the best record in the NHL. The Capitals are loaded with talent and always provide some very popular fantasy options.

One team to take a look at tonight for fantasy talent will be the St. Louis Blues, as they get a very favorable matchup with Vancouver.

NHL DFS Picks for Friday, March 25th

A couple strategy notes. For cash game construction look for players who can contribute to your score when they are not providing offense. Examples are guys who take a ton of shots, defensemen who block a lot of shots(DraftKings). Also, look for guys who get powerplay time and especially Top 6 forwards. You can find value in players who join a new line due to an injury or just get a promotion and more ice time.

For large field tournaments (GPP's) you want to find payers who have multi-point upside and can grab double-digit fantasy points. To stack the most upside in your forwards, a common strategy is to punt the defenseman position. This doesn't mean just grab anyone. Try and look for a D-man who will be playing more PP time or might get a boost in overall playing time due to an injury.

Let's take a look at some solid plays for today's action.

Brian Elliott - Goaltender, Blues   (DraftKings - $8,400 FanDuel - $9,600)

It's been a great return to action for Elliott. After missing nearly a month due to injury, he's picked up right where he left off before the injury. He's got back-to-back shutouts, including one on March 19 against Vancouver. The veteran netmider will see those same Canucks tonight, a team that's one of the worst in the NHL. Vancouver ranks 29th with an average of 2.30 goals a game. You only have six goalies to choose from tonight, and Elliott has to be considered the top choice.

Paul Stastny - Center, Blues   (DraftKings - $4,600 FanDuel - $5,400)

Stastny has become a reliable fantasy source over the past month. He was held off the scoresheet Tuesday, but has recorded a point in five of his last seven games. The veteran center has shown the ability to put up multi-point games lately, recording at least two points three times over the last five games. Tonight he'll get to go against Vancouver in what is a very favorable matchup. The Canucks have had difficulty stopping opposing centers from scoring fantasy points.

Steven Stamkos - Center, Lightning   (DraftKings - $7,400 FanDuel - $8,400)

Stamkos has seen his production drop this year, but is up to 34 goals and 26 assists for the season. He's been playing very well lately and enters tonight with a three-game point streak. He's got five points over the stretch and eight points over his last eight games. Stamkos likes to shoot, but he won't block many shots. Still, he's a good play on DraftKings thanks to his ability to score. His ample time that he spends on the power play also makes him a solid play for FanDuel.

Ondrej Palat - Winger, Lightning   (DraftKings - $5,000 FanDuel - $6,400)

Palat is a player who won't get you a lot of the extra points, but he's got talent and gets plenty of opportunities on a talented Tampa Bay team. He's coming off  a big game Tuesday in which he scored, dished out a helper, and finished with a plus-3 rating. The 24-year-old has a two-game goal streak and three goals over his last five games. With six points in the last six games, Palat has turned into a solid fantasy choice with a very manageable price tag.

Jaden Schwartz - Winger, Blues   (DraftKings - $5,800 FanDuel - $6,000)

Schwartz missed significant time this season with an ankle injury, but has played very well in his return. He was kept off the scoresheet his last time out, but had a five-game point streak prior to that. With three multi-point performances over his last five games, Schwartz has been playing about as well as anyone. Just be aware that he does tend to have games in which he doesn't even get a shot on goal off. A favorable matchup with Vancouver awaits tonight, and with very few options, you could do worse than Schwartz.

Jason Chimera - Winger, Capitals    (DraftKings - $3,600 FanDuel - $4,300)

The veteran winger hasn't been a reliable source of fantasy points for much of the season, but he's quietly put up 36 points -- his highest total since recording 42 during the 2013-14 season. Chimera has been hot lately, with points in back-to-back games and three points in the last four games. He's not afraid to block shots, or deliver hits, and even sees some time on Washington's second power-play unit. With a low price tag and limited options tonight, Chimera is a solid pick for both DraftKings and FanDuel.

Victor Hedman- Defenseman, Lightning   (DraftKings - $6,000 FanDuel - $5,700)

Hedman has a three-game point streak going right now with four assists over that span. He won't take a ton of shots, but he likes to block shots, something that gives him a boost on DraftKings. Due to his  plus-20 rating and 11 power-play points, he has some added value on FanDuel. With the limited options, Hedman is one of the most expensive blueliners available tonight. If you are looking to spend big at defenseman, Hedman is as solid of a pick as any at this moment.

Dmitry Orlov - Defenseman, Capitals  (DraftKings - $3,900 FanDuel - $4,000)

Finding a sleeper pick at defenseman will be a big part of having success tonight. A guy to target is Washington's Dmitry Orlov. He didn't pick up a point in his last outing, but still has two points in the last three games. He doesn't shoot much, or spend much time on the power play, but the plus-14 rating gives him an extra boost on FanDuel. Don't worry if you're playing on DraftKings, he'll help get you extra points there too with some blocked shots. New Jersey presents a tough matchup against opposing defenseman, but on a light night, he's worth taking a flier on.
