Lions running back (RB) Kerryon Johnson is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup to target as a free agent addition for Week 12 of the 2020 NFL season.

ANALYSIS: Detroit Lions running back Kerryon Johnson has been a bit of an afterthought this year with rookie D'Andre Swift (head) and veteran Adrian Peterson both outproducing and outworking him. However, now could be the time to jump on Johnson on the waiver wire as he has potential value in both the short-term and long-term this year with the recent news on Swift's brain injury.
The Lions offense as a whole was dreadful in Week 11 as they were shut out by the Carolina Panthers. With Swift out for the game, Johnson carried the ball six times for 17 yards in the game and added two catches for 21 yards on five targets. Peterson, meanwhile, wasn't any better, rushing seven times for 18 yards and failing to reel in his only target in the passing game.
The Lions have been a bit secretive about the full extent of Swift's injury. He's currently going through the league's concussion protocol and should be considered doubtful for this coming Thursday's game against the Houston Texans. If he indeed sits, Johnson could be a good, sneaky play against a Texans Defense that ranks last in the league against the run, allowing 159.3 rushing yards per game. Johnson and Peterson will likely split carries while Swift is out and Johnson will have more work in the passing game than Peterson. Add Johnson in leagues of 14 or more teams if you're in need of some running back help down the stretch.
