Gameweek 6 Preview - Fantasy Premier League 2024-25 Tips and Captaincy Picks

Gameweek Tips - Fantasy Premier League, Soccer

This article provides a preview of what Gameweek 6 has in store for fantasy managers, including top captain selections and strong picks for the weekly FPL Challenge game.

Gameweek 5 was a great week, especially for those who invested in Nicolas Jackson or Luis Diaz, as both players delivered 16 points each. Erling Haaland's 10th league goal now brings his tally to 100 goals in just 105 appearances for Manchester City, while Arsenal's defense remained solid against City in their previous encounter.

As Gameweek 6 approaches, activating the wildcard chip seems like a popular strategy for fantasy managers. Additionally, our FPL Challenge series, International Series, presents a new task titled 'Africa,' where managers can select players from the African continent. We'll provide weekly breakdowns of the top assets to choose for each challenge.

The Gameweek 6 deadline of the 2024-25 Fantasy Premier League season is Saturday, September 28 at 6:00 a.m. EDT, when Newcastle and Man City clash. Also, check out the rest of our excellent soccer coverage as the squad gets you all set for every English Premier League slate and UEFA Champions League game with our EPL DFS lineup picks and betting picks.

Gameweek 6 Tips

Target Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal Attacking Assets

According to goal projections, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Aston Villa are anticipated to generate 2.15, 2.45, and 2.70 xG (expected goals) against their opponents in Gameweek 6.

Additionally, these clubs have been projected to earn clean sheets in their upcoming encounters, with a likelihood of 31% for Manchester City, 38% for Liverpool, and 55% for Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa, Man United, Bournemouth, and Chelsea are expected to produce at least 1.80 xG against their opponents in Gameweek 6, which are also strong teams to target this upcoming weekend.

Recommended players for FPL returns this week include Manchester City's Erling Haaland, Savio and Rico Lewis, Liverpool's Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Arsenal's Bukayo Saka, David Raya (if fit), and Gabriel.

Players To Target on Your Wildcard for Gameweek 6

There will be a fixture swing for teams like Arsenal, Everton, and Brentford. Gameweek 6 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) presents an opportunity for managers to trigger the wildcard chip and reshape their fantasy teams. Here are the top three players to consider targeting on your wildcard:

Gabriel (£6.1m) - Arsenal - Amassing 3.20 blocks per 90 for Arsenal in their opening five games, Gabriel has been sensational for the Gunners.

Recently contributing two goals against Tottenham and Manchester City in Gameweek 5 and 6, the 26-year-old Brazilian is a solid choice to bring in on your wildcard.

Luis Diaz (£7.9m) - Liverpool - The Colombian international currently boasts six goal contributions (five goals and one assist) in his first five games.

Liverpool's in-form winger, Luis Diaz, was fully rested in the midweek game against West Ham and will be eager to deliver more attacking returns for FPL managers.

Cole Palmer (£10.6m) - Chelsea - The Englishman averages 7.2 FPL points per match. Chelsea star player Cole Palmer has consistently been involved in most of the goals scored by the Blues and has contributed two goals and four assists in five league games.

Gameweek 6 is the perfect moment to bring Palmer in your fantasy team.

A few honorable mentions include forwards like Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson. In midfield, Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo and Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers stand out, while defensively, Ipswich's Leif Davis and Manchester United's Matthijs de Ligt are worth watching.

Gameweek 6 Top Captain Picks

The weekend fixtures present a list of fascinating options for your captaincy choice. Players like Nicolas Jackson facing Brighton, Bryan Mbeumo at home to West Ham, and the Egyptian king Mohamed Salah against Wolves all present strong cases. However, my top two picks would be:

Erling Haaland (£15.2m) - Manchester City

Braut Erling Haaland, our FPL goal machine, moves to the top of the captaincy list this week after scoring 10 goals in Manchester City's first five league matches.

The 24-year-old Norwegian averages 12.6 FPL points per game. With a projected 55% goal-scoring odds against Newcastle in Gameweek 6, Haaland is the optimal choice for the captain's armband this weekend.

Bukayo Saka (£10.0m) - Arsenal

With six goal contributions (one goal and five assists) for the Gunners, he has provided an attacking return in every Premier League game this season. Arsenal's 'Starboy' Bukayo Saka returns to our list of best captain choices for Gameweek 6.

The Gunners are likely to generate an expected goal of 2.70 xG against a winless Leicester City side next, making Bukayo Saka a compelling choice for the armband this weekend.

Differential Gameweek 6 Captain (<10% ownership)

James Maddison (£7.5m) - Spurs

Steadily brewing into form for Tottenham, James Maddison displayed his potential in the recent matchup against Brentford, scoring and assisting in helping secure Spurs' victory over their London rivals.

Maddison now has 0.63 xA (expected assists) per 90 minutes in the Premier League and has the advantage of primarily being on set-piece duty for Tottenham. This weekend's encounter against Manchester United will allow Madders to showcase his abilities, making the Englishman an outstanding differential captain in Gameweek 6.

FPL Challenge: International Series

The FPL Challenge section for the 2024-25 season is back, and RotoBaller remains your go-to source for valuable insights on selecting the right assets for any challenge. The fifth challenge, 'Americas,' in the International series focused on selecting a team of five players from either North or South America.

Meanwhile, if you missed it, let's recap the FPL event tagged -- International Series and what is expected from the upcoming FPL Challenge event.

The International Series is a three-gameweek run that celebrates the diversity of the Premier League. The purpose is to let managers compete in three different challenges using the best players from three different regions:

  • Gameweek 5: Americas - Select players only from the Americas.
  • Gameweek 6: Africa - Select players only from Africa.
  • Gameweek 7: Asia-Pacific - Double points are allotted to players from Asia-Pacific only.

International Series FPL Challenge: Africa - Players to Target

Week 6 of the FPL Challenge focuses on adding a bit of diversity to your fantasy team with an emphasis on indigenes from Africa. As part of the event, managers are only allowed to select a team of five and are provided with the luxury of an unlimited budget.

Let’s carefully examine the underlying statistics of five top assets to target for this week’s task:

Andre Onana (£5.0m) - Manchester United (Goalkeeper)

With 11 saves and three clean sheets in his last five games for the Red Devils, Andre Onana has proven reliable between the posts. As the only African goalkeeper available in FPL challenge, the 28-year-old Cameroonian could step up again at Old Trafford against Tottenham.

Ola Aina (£4.5m) - Nottingham Forest (Defender)

Ola Aina, a Nigerian international, has played every minute of the 414 minutes he has played for Forest thus far, giving fantasy managers a sense of minutes security.

The 27-year-old excels at interceptions and ball recoveries, and he might be a valuable addition to Forest's squad for this week's game against Fulham at City Ground.

Mohamed Salah (£12.8M) - Liverpool (Midfielder)

The 32-year-old Egyptian, Mo Salah, remains Liverpool's best player, with 160 Premier League goals over the past decade. Though he’s been relatively quiet in recent games, failing to score in his last two, this week's matchup against Wolves offers a prime chance for him to get back on the scoresheet. Salah is also a top recommendation for the captain's armband in this week's challenge.

Bryan Mbeumo (£7.2m) - Brentford (Midfielder)

Since Ivan Toney's departure in the summer, Bryan Mbeumo has become a key goal supplier for Brentford. The Cameroon international is now the Bees' leading scorer and has a track record of delivering big moments against the traditional top-six teams.

Bryan Mbeumo is a strong pick and a potential captaincy option for this week's task at home against an out-of-form West Ham side.

Nicolas Jackson (£7.7m) - Chelsea (Forward)

Our recommended RotoBaller differential captain from last week, Nicolas Jackson, amassed 16 FPL points in Gameweek 5, catching the attention of fantasy managers after scoring a brace and providing an assist for the Blues.

As Chelsea's leading goal scorer, Jackson's confidence will be sky-high this weekend as he faces Brighton at Stamford Bridge. He comes highly recommended as the forward to bring into your team for the Africa challenge.

The FPL Challenge offers a fun twist on the main FPL game and provides the perfect platform to test out your favorite punts. Feel free to pick any other fantasy options not mentioned above, and best of luck to everyone participating in this week's challenge!
