Gameweek 10 Preview - Fantasy Premier League 2024-25 Tips and Captaincy Picks

Gameweek Tips - Fantasy Premier League, Soccer

This article provides a preview of what Gameweek 10 has in store for fantasy managers, including top captain selections and strong picks for the weekly FPL Challenge game.

A thrilling Gameweek 9 saw Arsenal and Liverpool battle to a 2-2 draw, while Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa delivered key attacking returns in a 4-3 win over Ipswich, making it a memorable week for FPL managers. But what surprises does Gameweek 10 have in store? Let’s dive in to find out!

The FPL Challenge --- Test Lab series introduces this week's new task titled 'Foul Play,' where fouls won are worth 2 points and fouls conceded are worth a -1 point. As always, we’ll offer weekly breakdowns of the top assets to target and help you maximize your points potential.

The Gameweek 10 deadline of the 2024-25 Fantasy Premier League season is Saturday, November 2, at 7:00 a.m. EDT, when Newcastle welcomes Arsenal up north. Also, check out the rest of our excellent soccer coverage as the squad gets you all set for every EPL and UCL slate with our EPL DFS lineup picks and betting picks.

Gameweek 10 Tips

Target Liverpool and Fulham Assets

Liverpool and Fulham have demonstrated strong attacking potential in recent games, with a combination of 29 goals scored (17 goals for Liverpool, 12 goals for Fulham) in the Premier League.

With Liverpool and Fulham set for home matches against the leaky defenses of Brighton and Brentford, investing in attacking FPL assets from either team could yield significant returns for fantasy managers this week.

Based on goal projections, Liverpool and Fulham are expected to generate 2.55 and 1.80 xG (expected goals) against their opponents in Gameweek 10.

This week's recommended players for FPL returns include Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, and Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fulham's Raúl Jiménez, Emile Smith-Rowe, and Antonee Robinson.

Fresh Start: Man United Eye Revival Under New Leadership

Sitting in 14th place, Manchester United parted ways with Erik ten Hag after more than two years at the Theatre of Dreams. With a top-four EPL finish looking unattainable, Ten Hag’s tenure ended.

In response, Ruud van Nistelrooy has stepped in as interim manager, marking his debut with an emphatic 5-2 Carabao Cup victory over Leicester City—a promising start that suggests the Red Devils might be set for a revival.

For FPL managers, this could be an ideal moment to gamble on United assets, hoping the "new manager bounce" can reignite their form and thus make a differential route to stand out in your mini-leagues.

Man United has a decent run of fixtures, taking on Leicester, Ipswich, and Everton between Gameweeks 11-13, with two of those games at Old Trafford. Recommended United assets to consider are Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, and Andre Onana.

Gameweek 10 Top Captain Picks

The weekend fixtures present a list of fascinating options for your captaincy choice. Players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin facing Southampton, Brennan Johnson at home to Aston Villa, and Cole Palmer against a struggling Man United all present strong cases. However, my top three picks would be:

Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) - Liverpool

Leading the FPL overall rankings with 84 points this season, Mohamed Salah ascends to the top of our captaincy picks this week, thanks to an enticing home fixture against Brighton.

The 32-year-old Egyptian continues to break records in the Premier League and presently boasts 16 goal contributions (nine goals and seven assists) in his last 16 matches against the Seagulls. Without a doubt, Mo Salah is our RotoBaller captain pick of the week.

Erling Haaland (£15.4m) - Manchester City

The Premier League’s leading scorer, Erling Haaland, has recently seen a slight dip in form, netting only two goals in his last five league outings. However, his expected goals tally of 2.33 xG against Southampton last week is a strong reminder of his explosive potential.

Now sitting at the top of the table, Manchester City heads into a tough away fixture against Bournemouth to defend their lead. FPL managers will be counting on Haaland to deliver against the Cherries, and he is a solid captain choice for the weekend.

Bukayo Saka (£10.0m) - Arsenal

Arsenal's "Starboy," Bukayo Saka, triumphantly returned from injury in Gameweek 9, netting his 50th Premier League goal against Liverpool and marking his tenth FPL attacking return.

Now up against Newcastle, a winless team in their last five league games, Saka becomes a compelling captaincy option as the Englishman will be keen to add to his goal tally against the Magpies.

FPL Challenge: Test Lab

The FPL Challenge section for the 2024-25 season is back, and RotoBaller remains your go-to source for valuable insights on selecting the right assets for any challenge.

The ninth challenge, "Playmakers," focused on selecting a team of five players, paying close attention to creative players who excelled in key passes and crosses completed. This week, we'll introduce a fresh task and spotlight our top assets to help you maximize points for the new challenge.

In case you missed it, here is a breakdown of what is expected from the FPL Challenge: Test Lab event.

The Test Lab is a four-gameweek run where the future of Fantasy Premier League will try out a few experiments for our fantasy teams. This series covers four tests focusing on earning points through different players and play styles.

  • Gameweek 8: Ball Winners - Interceptions and tackles are worth 1 point. Three recoveries are worth 1 point.
  • Gameweek 9: Playmakers - Key passes and crosses worth 2 points.
  • Gameweek 10: Foul Play - Fouls won are worth 2 points. Fouls conceded are worth -1 point.
  • Gameweek 11: Accuracy - Shots on target are worth 3 points.

Test Lab FPL Challenge: Foul Play - Players to Target

Week 10 of the FPL Challenge, Foul Play, highlights selecting attacking players who frequently draw in fouls. Each foul won will earn two points, while each foul conceded will result in a one-point deduction.

Managers can select five players with an unlimited budget. However, there's potential to gain extra points by selecting players known for drawing tackles—while steering clear of those who often commit fouls.

RotoBaller's top five picks for this week's Challenge are:

  • In defense, a double-up of Liverpool's Caoimhin Keller in goal and Trent-Alexander Arnold are selected for the Red's high likelihood of keeping a clean sheet.
  • Arsenal's talisman Bukayo Saka, with ten attacking returns and 15 fouls won for the Gunners this season, puts him as a keen favorite to have and gets the armband this week.
  • Tottenham's in-form midfielder, Brennan Johnson, is a decent attacking threat against Aston Villa and has the potential for fantasy points. His non-penalty expected goals per 90 of 0.52 xG make him a decent choice for this week's challenge.
  • Arsenal's Kai Havertz rounds off the lineup in a 1-2-1 formation as our single forward with nine fouls won this season.

Feel free to select any other top FPL Challenge alternatives that are not mentioned above. Best of luck to everyone participating in this week's challenge!
