EU Masters DFS Picks for 4/22/20: DraftKings League of Legends Daily Fantasy eSports

Brian McKendry's League of Legends (LoL) DFS advice and DraftKing lineup picks for EU Masters slates on 4/22/20. His top LoL value plays and eSports DFS recommendations.

Welcome to my first League of Legends DFS column as part of RotoBaller’s comprehensive eSports coverage. DraftKings is rolling out more EU Masters contests to tide over League of Legends eSports DFS enthusiasts until the other leagues return.

Earlier this month, DraftKings had a few mid-week EU Masters slates during the play-in stage. Now we’re on to the Group Stage which includes the four play-in winners plus the winners of larger regional leagues. Once again, we should see some great contests on DraftKings for these matches.

Today, I'll be providing my League of Legends advice, analysis and DFS lineup picks for this EU Masters slate on DraftKings that locks at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2020. You can check me out on Twitter @grownfool

Intro To EU Masters DFS for LoL

Each group has one team from the play-in stage and one team from each of three pools. Pool one includes the winners of top regional leagues in Germany, Spain, France, and the UK. The next pool includes the second-place teams from those leagues. The remaining pool includes the winners of the regional leagues in Poland, Scandinavia, Italy, and the Balkans.

If you’ve entered contests in EU Masters or LEC slates, you should be familiar with at least the names of some of the teams on this slate. K1Ck Esports, Esuba, and Defusekids all won in the Knockout Stage of the Play-in to advance to the main event. Fnatic Rising, Schalke Evolution, and AGO Rouge are the academy teams of LEC teams.

There’s a very strong correlation between league strength and wins. In last season’s EU Masters group stage, German league teams and Fnatic went undefeated. Spanish league teams won all their matches except those against German league teams. French league teams only lost when facing German and Spanish league teams. In the group stage of the Play-In tournament, only six matches were won by underdogs, and four of the six were between teams not in the top four leagues.

If you want to play an underdog, your best bets would be a pool 3 versus a pool 4 team. There are two on this slate. The Nordic league winner, Team Singularity, is up against K1CK Esports from the Polish league. ASO Rogue, also from the Polish league, faces off against Defusekids. Based on past results, Polish league teams are the best of the rest and still likely to win these matches.

Top DFS Team Stacks

Fnatic Rising (-750)

Fnatic Rising is a heavy favorite and was the only team to finish in the top four in both the Spring and Summer EU Masters Main Event. That along with name recognition will make them a popular choice on this slate.

xMatty led the UKLC in average kills at 6.21 with a KDA of 8.84.  MagiFelix wasn’t far behind with 4.57 average kills and a KDA of 7.94.  Dan was MVP in four matches in the Spring Season versus three each for xMatty and MagiFelix.  He could go overlooked and make for a good pivot at CPT in Fnatic Rising stacks.

  • Dan - JNG ($7600)
  • MagiFelix - MID ($8200)
  • xMatty - ADC ($8400)

Mousesports (-1200)

Mousesports’ performance in the Prime League playoffs was underwhelming. They only won one game in two matches against Schalke Evolution and squeaked by GamerLegion 3-2. During the season they loaded up on wins against the worst teams in the league and split series with most of the rest.

As a heavy favorite, they are likely to get the win. Ownership will be high among those who rely on Vegas odds. Lider was second in the league in average kills at 5.17 with a 4.58 KDA. Jeskla was also among the league leaders at 4.22 average kills with a 4.51 KDA. Tollkin was second on the team in kills overall in the playoffs and had 18 kills in the five-game series with GamerLegion.

  • Lider - MID ($8000)
  • Jeskla - ADC ($8200)
  • Tolkin - TOP ($6800)

Vodafone Giants (-250)

The Giants are my favorite play on this slate. The Vegas odds have them way underpriced. Between the Spring Season and the playoffs, Atilla had a KDA of 11.8.

Atilla and Pretty were the top two in average kills during the Super Liga Spring Season at 5.17 and 5.06.  Lamabear was MVP in four matches and second in average kills (2.33) and KDA (5.03).

  • Atilla - ADC ($7600)
  • Pretty - MID ($7400)
  • Lamabear - JNG ($6800)

Schalke Evolution (-290)

Schalke Evolution is a solid team at every position. Every player was top three in the league at their position in either KDA or average kills. After Innaxe got called up to the LEC, Neon was at ADC for seven of the last eight games of the season and had a KDA of 7.4 with average kills of 5.3.

Five of those games were against Mousesports. NukesAlot had the highest KDA (5.2) in for a SUP during the Prime League Spring Season. Sertuss led Prime League MIDs in KDA (6.1) and average kills (4.8).

  • Sertuss - MID ($7600)
  • Neon - ADC ($7800)
  • NukesAlot - SUP ($5600)

Summary

  1. We have enough teams on this slate that you can get away with playing all favorites. The pricing is soft enough to make it work, and based on past results it's advisable.
  2. If you're looking for some underdogs, I don't mind ASO Rogue or Team Singularity against the Polish teams.
  3. Remember these are only one-game series, so anything can happen!
