DraftKings, FanDuel Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks (9/08/23): Today's Top MLB DFS Lineups

matt olson fantasy baseball rankings draft sleepers mlb injury news

The top daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for FanDuel and DraftKings on September 01, 2023. Dawn Tepper's MLB DFS analysis and sleepers for building optimal DFS rosters.

Hey RotoBallers, I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend full of sports, friends, and food! Today's slate is small for a Friday, "just" 11 games! At first glance, bats with great matchups are Washington, Toronto, New York Mets, San Francisco, and the New York Yankees. Philadelphia, Kansas City, Atlanta, Boston, Minnesota, and Houston are significant bats with not-so-great matchups.

The extreme heat has finally broken here in the DMV, but we will still see temps in the 80s, giving the Dodgers/Nationals game another edge. Other games getting a bat-bump with the weather are Seattle at Tampa Bay, Miami at Philadelphia, Baltimore at Boston, and Pittsburgh at Atlanta.

This article will provide my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 9/08/2023 and the slate locking at 7:05 p.m. ET. The lineup picks will range from some elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. You can also read more DFS advice and lineup picks for other sports here. Monitoring injury news and today's MLB starting lineups is also essential. Now that we got all that out of the way, it's onto the picks! DraftKings, FanDuel Pitchers - MLB DFS Lineup Picks

Jordan Montgomery, TEX vs. OAK ($9,400 DK, $10,000 FD)

In Montgomery's last start versus Oakland, the lefty took a loss but struck out five in six innings pitched, finishing with a 3.00 ERA. Oakland has been streaky but has just a 93 wRC+ versus left-handed pitchers and a slash line of .220/.286/.350. In Montgomery's last five starts, he is 1-1, striking out 24 in 29 innings pitched, and a 3.72 ERA.

Oakland has had moments where they have surprised us, but they don't have enough power to give Montgomery a hard time tonight in Texas. Ownership will probably be a bit high, but this is one of the better matchups on tonight's slate, and at under $10,000 on DraftKings, it's worth the chalk.

Griffin Canning, LAA vs. CLE ($8,800 DK, $9,300 FD)

Right-hander Canning faces a Cleveland team with a .153 ISO for the season and .127 versus righties. In his last five starts, he is 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched. The Guardians are slashing .249/.311/.379 for the season and have lost four of their last five games. Canning's ERA for the season is 4.30, but his xFIP is 3.60.

Most DFS players will be on Senga tonight, and while he's a great pick, he's facing a Minnesota team with a .201 ISO and 128 wRC+, which makes me hesitant to use him in any contest. Canning is an excellent arm with an even better matchup for cash games and tournaments.

Also consider Hunter Brown, Kyle Bradish, and (value) Collin Snider

DraftKings, FanDuel Infielders - MLB DFS Lineup Picks

Corey Seager - SS, TEX vs. Paul Blackburn ($6,400 DK, $4,300 FD)

Lefty Seager is facing right-hander Blackburn, where in five at-bats, Seager has a .400 batting average with a home run, two RBI and a 1.50 OPS. For the season, he is slashing .339/.401/.648; versus righties, he is .352/.426/.695. His price on DK is on the high side but should push ownership down, and if he hits another homer and we throw in an RBI or two, he'll pay off the price easily.

Matt Olson, 1B, ATL vs. Mitch Keller ($6,200 DK, $4,200 FD)

We have another lefty facing a right-handed pitcher in Olson vs. Keller tonight in Atlanta. I don't need to tell you how hot the Braves have been lately, but I will anyway: for the season, they are slashing .269/.340/.493; .280/.350/.520 at home. Olson is .444/.524/1.16 in his last five games, with four home runs and four RBI.

Versus righties for the season, he is batting .276/.398/.624 with 38 home runs and 89 RBI. You don't need more numbers thrown at you to know that Matt Olson should be part of your Atlanta stack tonight.

Will Smith - C, LAD vs. MacKenzie Gore ($5,600 DK, $3,300 FD)

Los Angeles is in the Nation's Capital tonight, facing left-hander MacKenzie Gore. Smith is slashing .273/.364/.451 for the season with 17 home runs and 68 RBI. Versus lefties, he is slashing .262/.367/.495. In his last two games versus the Nat's, he is batting .286/.444/.714, and the Dodgers are .307/.379/.554 in three games versus the Nationals this season.

While the DC area has finally broken out of its heat wave, it's still sunny and in the 80s, giving this game an opportunity for lots of hits, and Will Smith and the Dodgers will make the most of their matchup tonight.

DraftKings, FanDuel Outfielders - MLB DFS Lineup Picks

Chas McCormick - OF, HOU vs. Blake Snell ($4,500 DK, $3,500 FD)

McCormick has been on quite a streak lately, with hits in his last eight games and slashing .289/.371/.527 for the season. He's facing lefty Snell, who is 4-1 in his last five games with a 2.50 ERA for the season. Versus lefties this year, McCormick is slashing .365/.431/.702 with nine home runs and 21 RBI.

Snell has been impressive, but I can't ignore McCormick's numbers versus lefties, nor Houston's numbers this season with a .258 ISO and 169 wRC+. McCormick and the Astros will be a strong, potentially low-owned stack tonight versus Snell, and is one of my favorites tonight.

Juan Soto - OF, SD vs. Hunter Brown ($5,500 DK, $3,600 FD)

Soto is slashing .258/.398/.485 for the season, .264/.412/.525 versus right-handed pitchers. He and the Padres are in Houston tonight facing right-hander Hunter Brown, who is 2-3 in his last five starts and 3-6 with a 5.56 ERA in his last 11 starts at home. I initially thought of Soto being in some of my lineups on his own, but given these numbers, the Padres could be a sneaky, low-owned tournament stack tonight and will be in my GPP lineups.

Matt Wallner - OF, MIN vs. Kodai Senga ($3,200 DK, $2,800 FD)

The Minnesota Twins have a .201 ISO and a 128 wRC+ with a .259/.345/.469 slash line since the All-Star break. Versus righties, Walner is slashing .256/.396/.537 with nine home runs and 26 RBI. Senga has been impressive this season, going 3-1 with a 2.48 ERA over the last five games. Senga will be a popular arm tonight, but a Minnesota stack will be low-owned, and they have the power to make things difficult for Senga tonight in the Twin Cities.

2. Minnesota Twins vs. Kodai Senga
