BALLER MOVE: Start in 10+ Team Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: WR2
ANALYSIS: Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf has strung together a few promising fantasy outings in his last few games. Over the last four weeks, Metcalf is averaging 80 yards per game and has scored five touchdowns in his last four matchups. He was fantasy football’s WR4 from Weeks 13 through 16.
Now he gears up for a tougher matchup against a stout Pittsburgh Steelers secondary in Week 17. Pittsburgh’s defense has allowed the 15th least fantasy points to opposing wide receivers, and they’ve narrowed the gap much more than that in their recent games. Over the last four weeks, this secondary has allowed just the fifth least fantasy points to opposing wideouts.
That being said, they’ve had struggles against No.1 option receivers in their most recent stretch. When WR Jamarr Chase was ruled out of the Steelers' Week 16 contest against the Bengals, WR Tee Higgins torched them for 140 yards on five receptions and a touchdown. The week before that, they let WR Michael Pittman Jr. of the Colts off to a four-catch, 78-yard first half before he left the game due to injury and did not return.
Given Metcalf’s talent, it’s fair to assume he’ll be able to produce the same way some other top-option receivers have against the Steelers as of late.
On top of that, very few receivers are seeing the red zone usage that Metcalf currently does. With eight touchdowns on the season, he accounts for the seventh most at the position. He is an extremely favored red zone target for QB Geno Smith, having the fourth most red zone targets amongst all receivers with 21 this season.
Fantasy managers can look to start the 26-year-old with confidence in their fantasy lineups this week despite the slightly tougher matchup. He is currently the WR13 in our half-PPR consensus staff rankings.
