DK Metcalf fantasy football start 'em, sit 'em picks for Week 12 (2023). Our advice on whether you should start or sit DK Metcalf for fantasy lineups.
BALLER MOVE: Start in 10+ Team Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: WR2
ANALYSIS: The Seattle Seahawks offense has struggled with consistency in 2023, especially at the quarterback position, and wide receiver DK Metcalf has seen his numbers drop as a result. The 2020 second-round pick is the WR28 in half-PPR formats and only has two receiving touchdowns on the season.
Metcalf's stock is starting to rise though, with back-to-back 90+ yard games. One of those two scores came last week -- an eight-yard slant from Geno Smith for six. The target volume has also been superb of late. Metcalf is tied with Tank Dell at No. 6 league-wide in targets over the past four weeks with 39 targets (9.8/game).
Week 12 brings a Thanksgiving prime time clash with the San Francisco 49ers, who have struggled in coverage this season (25th against fantasy WRs) but have played well over the past two weeks. Jacksonville's talented receiving core was held to just 10 catches for a total of 141 yards and zero scores, while Tampa Bay's dependable wideouts were limited to 15 catches for only 145 yards and one touchdown.
However, game script should favor Metcalf's fantasy outlook with the Seahawks likely playing catch-up most of the game, so he is squarely in play for Week 12. If he's available, that is. Metcalf did miss practice on Tuesday with a toe injury, so make sure to monitor his situation closely leading up to the Thursday night game. If he's able to go, he slots in as a WR2 this week with a tinge of risk, but also some upside.
