ANALYSIS: Things are about to get hot and heavy for Baltimore Orioles starter Cole Irvin. The O's put teammate Kyle Bradish, on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a right UCL sprain, which appears to be the start of an extended absence. This is the latest in a crushing string of bad luck for the Orioles, along with Bradish, Baltimore also lost John Means to Tommy John surgery, and pitcher Dean Kremer is still working his way back from a triceps injury.
On the bright side, Irvin has been a model of consistency and versatility for the Orioles so far this season, in his last ten games, he's gone 6-2 with a 2.01 ERA, also chipping in a hold stemming from two relief appearances.
Slotting in behind Corbin Burnes and Grayson Rodriguez, Irvin will be backed up by one of the most prolific offenses in MLB. Baltimore has scored 356 runs this year and holds a +109 run differential, both marks are ranked second in all of baseball. Although Irvin's next outing looks to be next week at Yankee Stadium, he is a must-start going forward in all formats. Even though loads of strikeouts aren't really his thing, only 51 Ks in 68 1/3 innings, he should contribute heavily to the ratios while racking up the wins.
