Carson Wentz is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup option for quarterbacks. Target him as a free agent add off waivers for Week 17 of the 2021 NFL season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 2QB Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 48% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Can't argue about Wentz's downtick in production during the second half of the season. It is what it is, but it is also what has him available in more than half of Yahoo leagues and as a viable option sitting on the WW shelves if you happen to play in 2QB/Superflex leagues and need some help for no less than your championship game. The upside is there, and although the average hasn't been high at all of late, the truth is that Wentz could very well prove key for your winning chances.
Wentz in the first nine games: 18.3 FPPG (around QB15); Wentz is the last six matches: 12.3 FPPG (around QB20). Just a couple of months ago, Wentz would be a borderline QB1 and surely a bona fide QB2. That's not the case any more, and while Wentz has been a top-24 player at the position in all slates he's been part of except two all year long, the truth is that he's finished either QB23-or-worse in four of his last six games (starting in W10). Even then, though, it's not that Wentz should be considered a walking dud. Not at all.
Wentz is coming off a game against Arizona in which he finally got things back on track after back-to-back seriously bad outings. Wentz completed 64.3% of his passes last Saturday (18-of-28) for 225 yards and 2 TDs with no interceptions. It's his first game with 2+ touchdowns since W12, and he got there with a few pass-catchers injuries on Saturday. Again, don't bank on Wentz as your QB1 unless you don't have any other option available. If you're looking for a sound second-tier player to drop in the QB2/Flex spot (in the leagues with such formats) then I can't recommend Wentz enough entering fantasy championship week--Indy is facing just the 12th-best defense against QBs in W17.
