Call of Duty DFS Lineup Picks (5/8/20) - DraftKings, FanDuel Daily Fantasy eSports

Dan Palyo's DraftKings and FanDuel DFS lineup picks for Call of Duty on 5/8/20. He analyzes the COD slates and top lineup targets for eSports DFS contests.

Hello there eSports DFS enthusiasts, and welcome to RotoBaller's coverage of Call of Duty DFS contests for FanDuel and DraftKings! I'll be taking my first shot at some COD analysis here (take it easy on me) and hopefully my pal the COD aficionado, @JorgePucks, will be helping out, too.

We will have four-match slates today, tomorrow, and Sunday as the COD league heads to Florida for the weekend for the Mutineers home series. With LoL DFS coming to an end for about a month, we are going to see more attention on some of the other eSports like CSGO, COD, Rocket League and likely better contests too. If you've never played COD DFS, don't worry - I'm going to include a breakdown of the scoring and basics here in addition to my picks for Friday's slate.

Today I'll be bringing you my COD DFS advice, analysis, and lineup picks for eSports DFS contests on DraftKings and FanDuel for Friday, May 8th, 2020 at 4:00 PM. Feel free to follow me on Twitter @ThunderDanDFS as I am happy to engage with readers and try to answer your questions!

Call of Duty: Florida Home Series (Best of 5)

  • Paris Legion vs. Atlanta FaZe (-550)
  • Optic Gaming LA vs. London Royal Ravens (-225)
  • Toronto Ultra vs. New York Subliners (-360)
  • Minnesota Rokkr vs. Florida Mutineers (-140)

COD DFS Basics

  1. Like in CSGO, players receive two points for a kill and are penalized -1 for dying. Therefore, the simplest stat to look at here is K/D ratio. However, players can also earn fantasy points for planting or defusing bombs (three points each) in Search and Destroy rounds, so there are some players who we can target for other skills besides their ability to kill the opponent.
  2. You need to roster a team slot on both sites. Teams accrue fantasy points for games won (+4), matches won (+10), and Search and Destroy rounds won (+.5).
  3. Teams will be playing best-of-five matches on a rotation of various game modes. Those modes and the order in which they are played is as follows: Hardpoint, Search & Destroy, Domination, Hardpoint, Search & Destroy.
  4. In hardpoint rounds, players with positive K/D ratios are usually the highest scorers and these rounds are often the bloodiest.
  5. The Domination round is a good bit different than the others as teams attempt to control flag points on the map. These rounds can be bloody, but also can be relatively low-scoring depending on how aggressive or defensive teams get in this round. Players can earn +1 for successful flag captures during this domination round.
  6. There are NO sweep or "games not played" bonuses for teams or players that finish their match early. That means we don't necessarily have to target the biggest favorites on each slate.

COD DFS Captain Considerations

Wuskin carries a slate-high 1.38 K/D ratio and is arguably the best player on the slate. He has been a beast in Hardpoint games this season, averaging over 38 DraftKings points per round and has also been very good in Domination with 32 DraftKings points per round. Look for him to carry this London team to a victory today over a struggling Optic team.

At 13.8k, he's the second-most expensive captain on DraftKings but he may be well worth that salary if this series goes four or five games. On FanDuel he is badly mispriced at only 8.9k with fifteen other players who cost more than him. He's a lock for me on FanDuel at that price, even if you choose to go with a pricier captain.

Godrx has the second-best K/D ratio on the slate with a solid 1.28 and averages a slate-high 41 DraftKings points per round in Hardpoint. With this Minnesota-Florida match having the potential to go five games, Godrx has arguably some of the highest upside on the slate. I like Minnesota to win, but even in a loss, Godrx could rack up a ton of fantasy points today in what could end up being a very bloody match.

Skyz is the guy you want on the other side of this match, as he leads his Mutineer team with a 1.23 K/D ratio. Like Godrx, he's been a beast in Hardpoint this season averaging 38.9 DraftKings points per round. I have no problem grabbing some players on both sides of this match as far as strategy goes or hedging this match by stacking each team separately in multiple lineups.

Other captain plays: Dashy, Assault, Fero

COD DFS Value Plays

MeTTalZ is only 7.4k on both sites today and stands out as one of the best values on the slate. It's not easy to find value on COD slates as most of the best plays are usually priced up, preventing us from rostering all the best Hardpoint players.

MeTTalZ carries a respectable .96 K/D ratio so he can hold his own in combat, but he is an excellent Search and Destroy player and could make value today with bomb defusals and plants. He's also been good in Domination rounds, averaging a team-high 33 DraftKings points per round. In the battle between two basement dwellers, I think Toronto makes for a sneaky GPP play.

Maux is only 7k on Draftkings and 7.3k on FanDuel. He's a 1.0 K/D ratio player and you simply won't find many guys with positive K/D numbers priced this low in COD very often. I like the Florida-Minnesota match to go four or five games, giving Maux and the rest of the players in that match a chance to rack up a bunch of fantasy points.

Other value plays: Frosty (DK)

COD DFS Stacks

London is one of the top stacks on the board in my opinion. They have the right combination of what we are looking for here as they are solid favorites (-225) over a 2-7 Optic team. London sits at 4-6 so far this season and grades out as a middle-of-the-pack team.

They should win this match, but more likely in four or five games, not a clean sweep. Remember, we are trying to avoid sweeps and the longer a series goes, the more potential for players in that match to accrue fantasy points.

London is led by the aforementioned Wuskin who can be stacked with teammate Skrapz and/or Dylan. Skrapz is carrying a solid 1.05 K/D ratio this season but has really excelled in Search and Destroy rounds where he is averaging a team-high 12 DraftKings points per round.

Dylan is fairly affordable on both sites and like Skrapz, has performed well in Search and Destroy while racking up a .93 K/D ratio. I expect London to handle Optic in the Hardpoint rounds, which is where they can really rack up a large number of kills and pad their fantasy stats.

Minnesota (10-6) faces off against the home team Florida (9-6) in what looks like the best match of the night. This match projects to be very competitive and may the most potential to go a full five games than any match on the slate.

Both teams are viable here in GPPs, but I lean slightly towards Minnesota here as slight underdogs. They will be looking to avenge their loss to Florida back in April and hold a slight edge in two out of the three different game modes (Hardpoint, Search and Destroy).

Godrx is the first piece of any Minnesota stack, but he has two excellent teammates for stacking options in Assault and Alexx. Both carry 1+ K/D ratios and average over 35 DraftKings points per round in Hardpoint games. Their prices on DraftKings make it easy to fit all three, but on FanDuel you may have to pick only two as it's significantly more challenging to get all three in with their pricing over there.

Other stacks/ teams: Florida, Toronto (underdog special)

Fades: Atlanta (because they could sweep and are highly-priced)
