I grew up in Southern California deep in Dodgers territory (though in the beach town I lived in, surfing was about as popular as football and baseball), but I didn't pay much attention to baseball at all until 2010 when I was in college up in Davis. I got caught up in the Giants playoff run, and much to my high school friends' dismay, SF Giants baseball has been in my blood ever since. Fantasy came hand in hand with this passion of mine and I learned to love the deeper connection and experience with the game of baseball fantasy affords its players. Although I'm a Giants fan, I've long admired the Houston Astros (I tell most people that they have the smartest front office in baseball and I mean it), and I look forward to the day (hopefully soon) that they're contenders again. I look forward to bringing all you guys the latest fantasy news and analysis from Houston. There are some fun seasons ahead.

MLB Injury Updates for Fantasy Baseball: Puig, Myers, Segura, Reyes, Jansen, Price, More

Week 6 MLB Injury Report for Fantasy Baseball Sprains, strains, and surgeries. These three words make chills run down the spine of even the most hardened fantasy player. They're the little “what if” clause hanging over every fantasy season, that thing you just can't ever really predict no matter how much pre-draft research you do. Like […]

First Base / Third Base Waiver Wire Pickups & Adds: Week 6

Hunting for values on the waiver wire is one of the most fun, and most challenging, parts of any fantasy season. This can be especially true at the infield corners, an area where the stars are readily scooped up and finding a low cost alternative can be often difficult. Here at RotoBaller, we're always looking […]

Jon Niese (SP, NYM) - Waiver Wire Analysis

BALLER MOVE: Add in Deep Mixed or NL-Only Leagues OWNED IN: 13% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: Jon Niese's numbers are practically calling out for regression. The 2.74 ERA with two wins may be shiny, but his underlying peripherals tell the story of a pitcher who's been remarkably lucky without great stuff. Niese's 5.48 K/9 and 3.52 […]

MLB Injury Updates for Fantasy Baseball: Springer, Strasburg, Werth, Hanley, Doolittle, Reyes, More...

Week 5 MLB Injury Report for Fantasy Baseball Sprains, strains, and surgeries. These three words make chills run down the spine of even the most hardened fantasy player. They're the little “what if” clause hanging over every fantasy season, that thing you just can't ever really predict no matter how much predraft research you do. […]

Josh Hamilton (OF, TEX) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Deep League Add Only OWNED IN: 22% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: Let's look at the facts. Josh Hamilton turned 33 years old this year. Over the last two seasons he's hit .255/.316/.426 with 31 home runs, seven stolen bases, and a strikeout rate well north of 25%. He's coming off major shoulder surgery and a […]

Ubaldo Jimenez (SP, BAL) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in Deep and AL-Only Leagues. OWNED IN: 32% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: We've seen this story before. During the homestretch of 2013, Ubaldo Jimenez turned a series of quality starts against a few of the worst teams in baseball into a multi-million dollar payday with the Orioles. His 1.82 ERA during the second half […]

Everth Cabrera (SS, BAL) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in Deep 14 team leagues and AL-only OWNED IN: 8% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: Considering that J.J. Hardy is getting closer and closer to a rehab assignment, Everth Cabrera's time of usefulness is drawing to a close. That isn't to say he doesn't have a role, however. Hardy has yet to actually begin […]

Hector Santiago (SP, LAA) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in Deep Mixed and AL-only OWNED IN: 14% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: Don't be fooled by Hector Santiago's 2.28 ERA. In truth, Santiago is much more of a number 5 starter than the ace his run prevention numbers would seem to suggest. While his strikeouts are up so far this season, the increased wiffs […]

Yangervis Solarte (2B/3B, SD) - Waiver Wire Analysis

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues OWNED IN: 10% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: Solarte is a reminder that talent isn’t everything. While arguably the least physically gifted of any of thePadres‘ staple players, Solarte has made the most of the opportunities he’s been given this season. Starting off the year as a bench player, he forced […]

Mark Canha (1B/OF, OAK) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues OWNED IN: 13% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: Let’s get one thing straight right off the bat: Canha’s power is legit. He mashed 20 home runs last year in Triple-A with a .303/.384/.505 slash line, impressing the A’s brass enough to snag him from the Marlins in the Rule 5 draft. Thanks […]

First Base/Third Base Waiver Wire Pickups & Adds: Week 5

Hunting for values on the waiver wire is one of the most fun, and most challenging, parts of any fantasy season. This can be especially true at the infield corners, an area where the stars are readily scooped up and finding a low cost alternative can be often difficult. Here at RotoBaller, we're always looking […]

MLB Injury Updates for Fantasy Baseball: Pujols, Puig, Wright, Iwakuma, Yelich and More

Week 4 Injury Report for Fantasy Baseball Sprains, strains, and surgeries. These three words make chills run down the spine of even the most hardened fantasy player. They're the little “what if” clause hanging over every fantasy season, that thing you just can't ever really predict no matter how much pre-draft research you do. […]

Yonder Alonso (1B, SD) - Waiver Wire Analysis

BALLER MOVE: Add in Deeper Leagues OWNED IN: 15% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: I bet a lot of people would be surprised to find out Yonder Alonso is hitting .379 this season. Commonly occupying the 5th spot in a potent Padres lineup, Alonso could be an cheap source of RBI and batting average production for fantasy owners […]

Adam Lind (1B, MIL) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in Deep Leagues ANALYSIS: With Jonathan Lucroy and Carlos Gomez recuperating on the DL, manager Ron Roenicke entrusted his cleanup hitter, Adam Lind, to take charge of the Brewers' offense over the past week. Lind has responded by hitting .348 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored. Gomez is on track to […]

David Freese (3B, LAA) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in Deep Mixed and AL-Only Leagues ANALYSIS: No team in baseball scored more runs in 2014 than the Angels. This year, the reigning AL West Champions returned strong, with Kole Calhoun, Mike Trout and Albert Pujols at the top of the lineup. Hitting cleanup behind these three, David Freese's run-producing opportunities alone could make him incredibly […]

First Base / Third Base Waiver Wire Pickups & Adds: Week Four

Hunting for values on the waiver wire is one of the most fun, and most challenging, parts of any fantasy season. This can be especially true at the infield corners, an area where the stars are readily scooped up and finding a low cost alternative can be often difficult. Here at RotoBaller, we're always looking […]

First Base / Third Base Waiver Wire Pickups & Adds: Week Three

Hunting for values on the waiver wire is one of the most fun, and most challenging, parts of any fantasy season. This can be especially true at the infield corners, an area where the stars are readily scooped up and finding a low cost alternative can be often difficult. Here at RotoBaller, we're always looking […]

MLB Injury Updates for Fantasy Baseball: Lucroy, Zobrist, Jansen, d'Arnaud, Mesoraco and More

Sprains, strains, and surgeries. These three words make chills run down the spine of even the most hardened fantasy owner. They're the little “what if” clauses hanging over every fantasy season - that thing you just can't ever really predict no matter how much pre-draft research you do. Like it or not, being able to […]

Brock Holt, (1B/2B/SS/3B/OF, BOS) - Waiver Wire Analysis

BALLER MOVE: Add in Deeper Leagues / Monitor in All Leagues OWNED IN: 8% of Fleaflicker Leagues If Brock Holt had an everyday job, he’d be a must add. The combination of speed, batting average, and positional flexibility he offers is hard to find in today’s game. He’s still useful even in his current role, however. As the Red […]

Kendrys Morales (1B/DH, KC) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues OWNED IN: 43% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: Kendrys Morales entered 2015 looking to remind the baseball world of why people used to be so afraid of his bat. So far he’s done so. Morales has been huge for the surging Royals, hitting over .400 with two home runs, nine runs scored, and […]

Adam Lind (1B, MIL) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in Deep and NL-Only Leagues ANALYSIS: Adam Lind’s bat has been white hot over the first week of the season. He’s batting .450 with four RBI and a home run to boot. This has not escaped the attention of Brewers manager Ron Roenicke, who has slotted Lind into the cleanup spot over the […]

MLB Injury Updates for Fantasy Baseball: Gomes, Rios, Calhoun, Felix, Alvarez and More

Sprains, strains, and surgeries. These three words make chills run down the spine of even the most hardened fantasy owner. They're the little “what if” clauses hanging over every fantasy season - that thing you just can't ever really predict no matter how much pre-draft research you do. Like it or not, being able to […]

First Base / Third Base Waiver Wire Pickups & Adds: Week Two

Hunting for values on the waiver wire is one of the most fun, and most challenging, parts of any fantasy season. This can be especially true at the infield corners, an area where the stars are readily scooped up and finding a low cost alternative can be often difficult. With that aim in mind, here […]

MLB Injury Updates for Fantasy Baseball: Brantley, Braun, Nathan, Mejia, Ventura and More

Sprains, strains, and surgeries. These three words make chills run down the spine of even the most hardened fantasy owner. They're the little “what if” clauses hanging over every fantasy season, those things you can't really predict no matter how much pre-draft research you do. Like it or not, being able to properly deal with […]

Mike Moustakas (3B/DH, KC) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLE MOVE: Add in Deeper Leagues OWNED IN: ESPN: 15.3% owned, Yahoo: 4% owned, Fleaflicker: 52% owned ANALYSIS: Mike Moustakas probably shouldn’t be on the radar of standard league players. Considering how many of our readers enjoy the thrill of deeper leagues, however, I decided to add him to the list. His value is twofold: lineup position and […]

Brett Lawrie (3B/2B, OAK) - Waiver Wire Analysis

BALLE MOVE: Add in Deeper Leagues OWNED IN: ESPN: 30.1% owned, Yahoo: 99% owned, Fleaflicker: 26% owned ANALYSIS: Sorry Yahoo owners, Brett Lawrie is an ESPN only play it seems. To be perfect honest, I don’t understand how Lawrie’s ownership numbers can be as low as they are, considering the upside he offers. Health has obviously been the […]

Stephen Vogt (1B/OF/C, OAK) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in Deeper Leagues / All Two-Catcher Leagues OWNED IN: ESPN: 5.6% owned, Yahoo: 41% owned, Fleaflicker: 21% owned ANALYSIS: The difference in Stephen Vogt’s ownership numbers between ESPN, Yahoo and Fleaflicker leagues is likely due to the fact that he’s already catcher eligible in the latter two. Assuming continued health and playing time, he’ll […]

First Base / Third Base Waiver Wire Pickups & Adds: Week One

Hunting for values and sleepers on the waiver wire is one of the most fun, and most challenging, parts of any fantasy baseball season. It can also make or break your teams. This can be especially true at the infield corners - an area where the stars are readily scooped up, and finding a low […]

How to Use Positional Scarcity and Depth to Your Advantage

Position scarcity and depth are topics of great debate every draft season. Where the talent pool is deep, you can afford to wait. Where it is scarce, an early pick is often in order. During the work on my series of draft value articles using RotoBaller's ADP Draft Sleepers Tool, I examined the depth of […]

Hidden 2nd Base Draft Gems and ADP Value Picks

If you're looking to make a splash on draft day, you should give RotoBaller's ADP Draft Sleepers Tool a long, hard look. Part of our Premium Subscribers package, the Sleepers Tool allows you to compare a player's expected production against his top comparables going later in the draft.
