I grew up in Southern California deep in Dodgers territory (though in the beach town I lived in, surfing was about as popular as football and baseball), but I didn't pay much attention to baseball at all until 2010 when I was in college up in Davis. I got caught up in the Giants playoff run, and much to my high school friends' dismay, SF Giants baseball has been in my blood ever since. Fantasy came hand in hand with this passion of mine and I learned to love the deeper connection and experience with the game of baseball fantasy affords its players. Although I'm a Giants fan, I've long admired the Houston Astros (I tell most people that they have the smartest front office in baseball and I mean it), and I look forward to the day (hopefully soon) that they're contenders again. I look forward to bringing all you guys the latest fantasy news and analysis from Houston. There are some fun seasons ahead.

Fantasy Football Strategy - How Useful is Strength Of Schedule Analysis?

This article is an examination of the usefulness of strength of schedule analysis in fantasy football. To get there however, we first have to take a hard look at something else. That something else is the Buffalo Bills. Defensive performance is very difficult to predict year to year, and below I'll dive into this further. Editor's […]

Rookie Tight Ends in Fantasy Football - To Draft Or Not To Draft

Every year we have the same conversation. A rookie tight end is picked high in the NFL draft and fantasy football enthusiasts begin asking if he's worth taking a chance on when their redraft league drafts rolls around later this summer. Inevitably there's someone in every league that remembers Rob Gronkowski setting the world on fire in […]

MLB Injury Updates for Fantasy Baseball: Springer, Gray, Posey, Corbin, Soler

Sprains, strains, and surgeries. These three words make chills run down the spine of even the most hardened fantasy player. They're the little “what if” clause hanging over every fantasy season, that thing you just can't ever really predict no matter how much pre-draft research you do. Like it or not, being able to properly […]

Chris Parmalee (1B / OF, BAL) - Waiver Wire Analysis

BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues OWNED IN: 9% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: Parmelee burst onto the scene with a vengeance this week. After being called up the Orioles, he made his season debut by going 4/6 with two home runs, three Runs scored, and two RBI. He’s hit another home run since then and is batting […]

Mitch Moreland (1B / DH, TEX) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues OWNED IN: 31% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: Moreland has continued to hit his way up the Texas Rangers‘ batting order. Thanks to his impressive play, Manager Jeff Banister has entrusted him with cleanup duties twice in the last three days. Most notably, these outings have come against Zack Greinke and Carlos […]

First Base/Third Base Waiver Wire Pickups & Adds: Week 12

Hunting for values on the waiver wire is one of the most fun, and most challenging, parts of any fantasy season. This can be especially true at the infield corners, an area where the stars are readily scooped up and finding a low cost alternative can be often difficult. Here at RotoBaller, we're always looking […]

Maikel Franco (3B, PHI) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 10+ Team Leagues OWNED IN: 36% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: It’s about time something went right for the Philadelphia Phillies. Franco has been putting on a show this June, slashing .425/.465/.850 with four home runs and eight RBI. He’s been so good in fact that Manager Ryne Sandberg has even experimented with […]

Mitch Moreland (1B / DH, TEX) - Waiver Wire Analysis

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues OWNED IN: 22% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: Moreland is the kind of player who could have a MVP-caliber season and the world wouldn’t notice. While he hasn’t quite been an MVP, Moreland has been a surprisingly productive fantasy asset for the past several weeks. He is hitting .310/.366/.542 on […]

Adam Lind (1B, MIL) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues OWNED IN: 51% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: I’ve waxed on about my love for Adam Lind enough times in this column that I won’t bore you with a long-winded rewrite. After his early season surge, Lind is slowly but surely turning on the gas again. He’s hit .375 through […]

Trevor Plouffe (3B, MIN) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in Deep Mixed and AL-Only Leagues Owned In: 36% Fleaflicker, 31.3% ESPN, 25% Yahoo ANALYSIS: Trevor Plouffe has hit .360 over the last week with a home run and plenty of counting stats to go with it. During the month of May, Plouffe has been a .303 hitter with four home runs, 19 RBI and 12 runs scored. […]

Mike Napoli (1B, BOS) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in Most Leagues Owned In: 37% Fleaflicker, 41.1% ESPN, 57% Yahoo ANALYSIS: Don’t let his less-than-stellar season stat line fool you, Mike Napoli has been the hottest thing on the planet of late. Over the past two weeks, he’s hit .317/.429/.707 with five home runs, 11 RBI and eight runs scored. Frankly, if he continues […]

Addison Russell (SS, CHC) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in deeper leagues. In one or two years time, you won't be finding the name Addison Russell on these waiver wire blogs. A bat like his is the kind that you almost have to believe will belong to one of the best four or five fantasy shortstops in the game. That's what fantasy […]

Billy Burns (OF, OAK) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in all leagues. If you're looking for a cheap source of batting average, runs scored, and speed, Billy Burns might just be your guy. Although you might not guess it from their place in the standings, the Oakland A's have scored the seventh most runs in baseball to this point in the season. Atop […]

Maikel Franco (3B, PHI) - Waiver Wire Analysis

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues OWNED IN: 16% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: Considering that I was never a big fan of Franco's while he was coming up as a prospect, I must say I've been impressed by how he's handled his time in the big leagues this year. Against the toughest competition he's ever faced, […]

Yasmany Tomas (3B, ARI) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 10+ Team Leagues OWNED IN: 16% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: Ever since being called back up from the minors, Tomas has just been crushing the ball for the DbacksNotebook” href=”http://www.rotoballer.com/mlb-fantasy-news/?team=ARI”>Diamondbacks. He’s sporting a .333 batting average through the month of May. Over the past seven days, he’s been even better, hitting to a […]

Brandon Belt (1B, SF) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues OWNED IN: 68% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: Last week Brandon Belt was my number one waiver wire recommendation. If you’d followed my advice and picked him up then, you’re probably pretty pleased with me right now. Belt has hit a sizzling .450 with three home runs over the past week, […]

First Base / Third Base Waiver Wire Pickups & Adds: Week 8

Freddy Galvis (3B/SS, PHI) - Waiver Wire Analysis

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues OWNED IN: 17% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: Rockies fans are going to get mad at me at this rate, but the Coors Field effect is hard to ignore. Galvis might not qualify at 3rd base in all formats, but Yahoo owners are going to want to give this player […]

Yunel Escobar (3B/SS, WAS) - Waiver Wire Analysis

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues OWNED IN: 25% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: Yunel Escobar has been an absolute shot in the arm for the Nationals so far this season. He’s hitting .328 from the number two hole in a lineup that’s scored the 4th most runs in baseball. Recently he’s been even more impressive. […]

Ryan Howard (1B, PHI) - Waiver Wire Analysis

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues OWNED IN: 14% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: There’s no denying the hit you’ll take in batting average by rostering Ryan Howard. His short term power upside might just be high enough to justify that risk, however. For all his faults, Howard is up to seven home runs on the […]

Brandon Belt (1B/OF, SF) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 10+ Team Leagues OWNED IN: 52% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: We’re at the point where we need to start talking about Brandon Belt. Many fantasy owners were turned off by his putrid numbers in March and April in which Belt only hit .235 with no power. Don’t let these figures distract you […]

First Base / Third Base Waiver Wire Pickups & Adds: Week 7
