Samaje Perine is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup option for running backs. Target him as a free agent add off waivers for Week 14 of the 2021 NFL season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 20% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: There has been a lot of speculation about Joe Mixon this week, and whether he will suit up and play in Week 14. As of Saturday, he has not yet practiced. All week he had been dealing with a neck injury, and then with an illness. Although coach Zac Taylor said that Mixon should be good to go, it's not a guarantee and it's certainly a bit worrisome that he didn't practice at all.
If Mixon were to sit, then Samaje Perine would step in as the lead running back for the Bengals in Week 14. Anytime a player assumes lead running back responsibilities, they enter the RB2/FLEX discussion. Add in the fact that Perine could be used both in the rushing game and also in the passing game, it provides even more upside especially in PPR leagues.
Perine is still only 20% rostered, so if he's available in your league and you still aren't comfortable with your FLEX position this week, go pick him up off the waiver wire. Monitor the injury news on Sunday morning, and then make a decision on whether to start him. If you have Mixon on your rosters and Perine is a free agent in your league, make sure you add him not only as a potential option for this week, but as a backup plan for the fantasy playoffs as well.
