J.D. McKissic is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup option for wide receivers. Target him as a free agent add off waivers for Week 3 of the 2021 NFL season.

ANALYSIS: Fantasy managers who invested heavy draft capital in Washington Football Team running back Antonio Gibson are likely shivering just at the mention of the name J.D. McKissic right now. The 28-year-old veteran saw nine fewer carries and 12 fewer snaps than Gibson in Week 2, but he ended up with a superior fantasy game and needs to be on the radar for all fantasy managers.
McKissic rushed four times for 10 yards and a touchdown while adding five catches for 83 yards on six targets in Week 2. Meanwhile, Gibson rushed 13 times for 69 yards, averaging a solid 5.3 yards per carry, and he caught both of his targets for just four yards.
Gibson and McKissic were the only Washington running backs who saw the field this past Thursday. Gibson played 61% of the snaps while McKissic played 44%. It was a slight decrease for Gibson, who logged 65% of the snaps in Week 1, and a solid increase for McKissic, who logged 36% of the snaps in Week 1.
Gibson will continue to dominate the carries going forward, but McKissic isn't going away and he's likely going to continue to see far more targets in the passing game than Gibson. Last year, McKissic saw 110 targets to Gibson's 44. Fantasy managers in need of running back or flex help in deep PPR leagues should prioritize McKissic off the waiver wire this week. He has a tough matchup against the Buffalo Bills in Week 3, but he could flourish in a favorable matchup against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 4.
