NFL running back Jerick McKinnon is a potential 2020 fantasy football sleeper and ADP draft value. Target him as an undervalued RB in fantasy football drafts.
BALLER MOVE: Target Around ~170 Overall
CURRENT ADP: 180+ (Undrafted)
ANALYSIS: Jerick McKinnon is one of the most gifted athletes to step foot on a football field this century. The problem is that he has not played a single snap of regular season football for the 49ers in his two years with the team. After being drafted with the 96th-overall pick back in 2014 by the Vikings, McKinnon moved to San Francisco in 2018 but he's done nothing for the 49ers yet.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan is a wizard when it comes to designing run plays, and he chose McKinnon to be an integral part of his scheme when McKinnon signed a contract for four years worth up to $36.9M in 2018. And it is not that McKinnon has not done enough in training to prove his worth, but rather injuries that have prevented him from showcasing his talents at all. He tore his ACL on Sep. 2018 and then suffered a setback in Aug. 2019.
Now that he is finally healthy, and the former pass-catching running back Matt Breida has signed with the Miami Dolphins, the door for McKinnon to contribute is wide open in San Fran. If anyone can take advantage of McKinnon's elite speed and athleticism, it is Shanahan. McKinnon is currently being drafted as RB70 in ADP, but he possesses top-36 upside in PPR leagues if he were to play a full 16 games. With that discrepancy in price and potential, it makes sense to consider McKinnon a last-round flier worth drafting in 12-team leagues.
