Dave Swan highlights the top FanDuel MLB DFS lineup picks for 8/16/20, and a couple of sleepers to consider while building daily rosters.
Sunday baseball, one of the great ways to spend your off time. Today's feature is the perennial Cy Young candidate, Max Scherzer. He looks to continue his dominance against the hot-hitting Baltimore Orioles as we wrap up another weekend of baseball.
In this article, we'll identify players who will help you win a cash game and build your bankroll or take down a GPP for a big pay-day. Every player on this list is on one of my own FanDuel teams.

FanDuel DFS Pitchers
Max Scherzer - WAS @ BAL ($10,800)
There may be a ten-game slate of baseball today but Scherzer stands atop the talent pool of pitchers. He brings his 2.75 ERA and 1.32 WHIP into Baltimore to face the Orioles. Scherzer is already throwing over 100 pitchers per start, which is a great sign to see him already in mid-season form. His velocity looks right where it should be and the breaking balls are snapping off nicely. Last time out, he beat the Mets after tossing six innings of one-run baseball. While the Orioles have been swinging the lumber this year, Scherzer is a special kind of talent that you need to play.
Randy Dobnak - MIN vs. KC ($7,900)
Randy Dobnak is a rare breed for pitchers. He pitches exclusively to contact and wants to make batters beat the ball into the ground, rather than strike them out. While he only has 11 strikeouts through four starts, he does boast a 0.90 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, and 3-1 record. Dobnak has an elite 66.7% ground ball rate and has only allowed 10% of batted balls against him to be fly balls. That's incredibly impressive given the flyball revolution brand of ball being played these days. He matches up against the Royals, who enjoy swinging the bats and have the lowest on-base percentage in the MLB. This matchup seems to play right into Dobnak's hand. Start him with confidence.
FanDuel DFS Infielders
Anthony Rizzo - 1B, CHC vs. MIL ($3,700)
Rizzo is heating upwup the bat lately. He has six hits in his last four games, three of them being extra-base hits. He is really seeing the ball well with three walks in that time as well. His .254/.405/.508 slash line looks to improve against Josh Lindblom today. Lindblom is still trying to adapt to MLB, and while he does have over a strikeout per inning, it has come with an over 5.00 ERA.
Rougned Odor - 2B, TEX @ COL ($3,400)
Rougned Odor is a very flyball happy hitter that is going to be swinging the bat in Coors Field today. He just needs to make contact with the ball more. Odor has a boom or bust approach that has not suited him well so far. He only has one home run and is batting .140 through 14 games played. However, he is starting to break out of the slump with four hits in his last five games. Let's hope today is the day he makes more contact and takes Jon Gray deep.
Kyle Seager - 3B, SEA @ HOU ($3,200)
Seager has been a bright spot in the Mariner's offense to start 2020. He carries a .303 batting average with 19 RBI, 11 Runs, three HRs, and even two stolen bases through 22 games played. Seager has been productive in all facets of the game. He will take his left-handed swing against RHP, Lance McCullers in the very hitter-friendly confines of Minute Maid Park. McCullers is having a yo-yo season with three terrible starts and a gem in his last time out. Seager is far too locked in to pass up.
Trea Turner - SS, WAS @ BAL ($3,400)
Turner has been a little different than expected to start his year. He has yet to swipe a bag but already had four home runs notched to his belt. That is kind of a shocker, considering Turner has the 99th percentile in sprint speed and a .350 OBP. He looks to take the newfound power up against John Means today. Means is struggling to keep the ball in the park and has a 7.71 ERA as a result of that. Turner should cost more, so grab the elite production at a slight value.
FanDuel DFS Outfielders
Juan Soto - OF, WAS @ BAL ($4,600)
Until further notice, continue to play Juan Soto. He has been a one-man wrecking crew against pitchers since returning from the IL. He is batting .405 with six home runs, 14 RBI, 10 Runs, and a stolen base in only ten games played. Yes, I said only ten games played! His last four games have been over 20 DFS points scored and he draws a favorable matchup in Camden Yards. This is a must-play outfielder.
Austin Meadows - OF, TAM @ TOR ($3,600)
Much like Soto, Meadows started the season on the IL and is on a tear as of late. He has 12 of more DFS points in five of his last six games started. He has a .263/.364/.553 slash line with a .916 OPS through 11 games played. Meadows has always prided himself on hitting right-hand pitchers and faces off against Matt Shoemaker today. Shoemaker has not been able to strike batters out consistently and been penalized with the long ball. Look for Meadows to continue the trend while also getting on base.
Eloy Jimenez - OF, CWS vs. STL ($3,300)
Jimenez is mashing baseballs out of the park lately with three in his last four games. In that four-game power burst he has over 21 DFS points in three of them. His 2020 breakout is showcasing a robust .282 ISO through 19 games played. Jimenez is matchup-proof but draws Dakota Hudson as the opposing pitcher. Hudson has not had many chances to pitch due to the team's constant postponements. In his only 4.1 innings pitched, he was shelled. Jimenez has the upper hand and looks to take advantage of the hitter-friendly home confines.
