James Swindell's League of Leagues (LoL) analysis and LEC DFS lineup picks for FanDuel, DraftKings on 6/20/20. He discusses the LEC LoL slates and his top targets.

Welcome to RotoBaller's continued coverage of League of Legends DFS for FanDuel and DraftKings. Hopefully, you've been following our coverage of the LPL, LEC, and LCS as well as we intend to cover all LoL leagues for the Summer split. Today, I am focusing on the 5-game LEC slate that has contests available on both FanDuel and DraftKings.

My name is James Swindell and I will be your new source for all things LEC DFS related! I have been involved with Esports for many years, but I am relatively new to League of Legends. That being said, I do my homework and have put a lot of time into studying LoL. I will put my best effort into bringing you all the most accurate information and predictions each week. I am confident right now in my knowledge as a league player and analyst, and over time I will be able to bring even-better, more in-depth analysis to you all. Most importantly I want to help the readers and fans of RotoBaller succeed and make some money!

Today I'll be bringing you my top League of Legends advice, analysis, and picks, for the LEC slate on Saturday, June 20th, 2020 at 12:00 PM. The 5-game slate features many exciting matchups for fans of league and DFS alike. G2 looks to bounce back after last week's poor performance, SK Gaming attempts to solidify themselves as a potential playoff contender, and Fnatic will try to continue their hot streak. Follow me on Twitter @s28_james and hit me up if you ever want to talk about LoL lineups or roster construction. I am more than happy to chat with you all!

League of Legends DFS Basics

Since LEC contests are being offered on both FanDuel and DraftKings, it's important to note some pricing discrepancies from site to site, but the roster slots, scoring, and roster construction rules are almost entirely identical with the only exception being that FanDuel forces you to roster at least one player (or team slot) from a third team, while you can play only two teams among your seven roster slots on DraftKings.

  1. Once a match starts, anything can happen. Usually, the better teams are very consistent. Be sure to check the player pool carefully and try to craft a roster of players who have been playing recently or do not have listed backups.
  2.  Stacking in LoL DFS lineups is paramount. 4-3 stacks are the order of the day (on DraftKings) with 3-3-1 or 4-2-1 are becoming more popular (and necessary on FanDuel) as people try to differentiate their lineups in these suddenly large-field GPPs.
  3. In LoL DFS, it is very important to focus on players from winning teams. Think in terms of baseball, one side of the matchup is like a pitcher and the other side the batter. This means there is a very negative correlation between teams in the same match. Players score by accumulating kills, which costs the other side points in deaths. Just like earned runs bring down your pitcher’s score.
  4. Along with this another mistake I see beginners making is trusting average scoring.  Players' scoring potential is only realized in games that are won. If player X averages 50 DKP, that likely comes from scoring 70 in a 2-0 win and 30 in an 0-2 defeat. What this means is that someone who looks like a value at $4800 suddenly might not end up being such a great point-per-dollar play.
  5. Finally, you're going to want to do your best you fill your captain slot with an ADC or MID.  Depending on which teams and players you decide to stack that might not be feasible. The order of preference for your captain slot is generally ADC, MID, JNG, TOP, SUP.  Some players in some positions may stand out above the others so consider stats like kill share before you make your final decision.

SK Gaming (-180) vs. Excel Esports (+130): DFS Targets

SK Gaming (SK) dominated in their the match versus Misfits on Friday, proving that they should be considered near the top of the teams in the LEC. SK got out to an early lead on Misfits by controlling early game objectives. This allowed them to win team fights and turrets later on in the game. As for Excel (XL), they fell to Origen without much of a fight. XL was soundly beaten by Origen with the final kill total at 15-4 in Origen's favor.

Jenax came alive for SK on Friday, posting an impressive K/D/A (kills/deaths/assists) ratio of 15.0 with 9 kills. His teammate Crownshot also had another solid performance with a 14.0 K/D/A and 5 kills. Crownshot has been one of the best ADC in the league thus far, even when SK play slower team compositions you can expect Crownshot to be involved when there is some action. XL did not have any players who performed well. There are some flashes of life from individuals like Special and Patrik at times, but you should fade XL players this weekend based on their performance thus far.

This matchup has lots of potential value. On sites such as DraftKings (DK) that price players based on their teams' odds to win rather than individual performance, there will be players priced fairly cheaply on SK. SK look to be strong contenders for an LEC playoff spot, and in this matchup, their play in the top and bot lanes should carry them to a victory fairly easily. Fade XL players in this matchup and look for potential value on the side of SK.

SK Plays: Crownshot, Jenax

Misfits Gaming (-245) vs. FCS (+175): DFS Targets

Misfits (MSF) had one of the most disappointing performances of the season on Friday. Not only did they lose to SK Gaming, a team that they are going to be competing with for a final playoff spot, they were also consistently dominated from start to finish. Doss and Razork played poorly and star ADC Kobbe finished up the game with 1.0 K/D/A on this 2/1/3 stat line. As for FCS (FC Schalke 04), they did not look particularly impressive either. During the early game, they were able to hold their own against G2 but as they were outplayed and lost consecutive objectives, G2 used that advantage to dominate them in the late game.

Doss gave advantages away by letting himself be killed in isolation numerous times by SK. That being said, Doss is not the only player that has failed to perform. Razork's stat line was not much better than his teammates'. Their respective K/D/A lines of  0/1/6 for Doss and 0/2/4 for Razork prove that Misfits have some serious issues they need to work out. Neon had a solid showing on an off-meta champion, proving that FCS has some talented players on their roster. His 3/1/2 K/D/A and 318 CS (creep score) were good, but FCS is not performing well as a team right now.

Fade this matchup outside of a possible team play. Although FCS is not playing well this split and there is some potential for Misfits to bounce back, MSF have not shown any indication outside of their win versus Origen, that they can compete with the best teams in Europe. Both teams are at the bottom of the standings for a reason. MSF are still favorites to win this game, but their play so far has not been up to par with what is expected of them.

MSF Plays: Team slot

Team Vitality (+155) vs. Mad Lions (-215): DFS Targets

Although Team Vitality (VIT) looked strong week one, they were no match for Rogue on Friday. Team VIT played an aggressive, team fight oriented composition that did not scale as well into the late game. VIT got off to an early lead, but Rogue's wave/lane control put a stop to their advantage and they eventually lost the lead in the midgame. Mad Lions (MAD) played an exciting game versus Fnatic, who were tied for the best record in the league heading into the match. MAD pulled off a comeback with a late-game team fight swing in the Elder Dragon Pit, and then proceeded to win an uncontested Baron as well. After their huge momentum swing, they were able to steal the game away from Fnatic.

Team VIT's Cabochard played well in the top lane managing a 2/2/2 K/D/A ratio even though his team lost pretty handily. This game looks like a tough matchup for him, as he will have to face Orome who has been stellar in the top lane for MAD as of late. Shad0w has continued to impress from the JNG role, contributing a nice 2/1/6 K/D/A on one of his best champions, Lee sin. Along with shad0w, Humanoid played like he had something to prove versus Fnatic, putting up a 6/2/6 K/D/A along with a solid 355 cs. Although Humanoid had a great game versus a strong opponent, he also has a tough matchup against Milica in the mid lane.

This matchup is interesting because both teams have been strong so far. MAD should still win this game but do not expect VIT to roll over. MAD likes to surprise their opponents with unorthodox lineup compositions and huge damage output combos in the late game. VIT is a good team, but MAD belong somewhere in the top 3 of the league. MAD has fairly difficult matchups in each lane, VIT's roster lines up with their's pretty well. With that being said, the performance of MAD this split has shown they can put up some huge numbers for your DFS lineup.

MAD Plays: Shad0w, Kaiser, Orome

VIT Plays: Comp

G2 Esports (-260) vs. Rogue (+180): DFS Targets

Spring split's reigning champions have gotten off a rocky start in the summer, but they picked up a nice win versus S04 on Friday. G2 looked closer to their usual selves in this matchup, getting a convincing win versus last place Schalke. G2 Esports (G2) played a calculated game and took small objectives throughout the game, leading to their eventual advantage in the late game. While they did pick up the victory, G2 were expected to dominate the matchup much more than they did. Rogue (RGE) has looked consistently impressive over the summer split, picking up a nice win versus a revitalized VIT. Rogue fought back against early pressure from VIT by controlling lanes and eventually capturing major objectives that allowed them to win the game.

Larssen was impressive for RGE once again, putting up an excellent 5/0/4 line. His opposition in the midlane, Caps, also had a nice game of his own with a 2/1/7 output. The star of the game for G2 was Jankos who returned to his former league MVP form with 6 kills and a 9.0 K/D/A from his JNG position. Support is generally an underrated position and RGE's Vander is an example of one underrated support doing a ton for his team. He had a great game versus VIT with a 1/0/7 stat line and he has been arguably one of the best supports in the LEC.

In spite of the fact G2 has not been impressive this split, they are still a phenomenal team and this game is an excellent opportunity for them to prove to the LoL world that they are the same team that has been dominant in Europe for so long. Rogue will be their toughest opponent yet and I could see them continuing their undefeated streak, but G2 has something to prove and this game could be the start of a massive turnaround for them.

G2 Plays: Caps, Jankos, Perkz

RGE Plays: Vander

Fnatic (-210) vs. Origen (+150): DFS Targets

This matchup is one of the best of the weekend without a doubt. Fnatic (FNC) took a tough loss to MAD in which they led for most of the game. Although FNC did not come out with the win, they did play exceptionally well aside from a late-game team fight that allowed MAD to swing the momentum. Origen had an easy matchup on Friday versus XL. They capitalized on this easier matchup by playing a slower style of game that they are comfortable with and proceeding to slowly, but surely capture to victory. Origen has been criticized for their "boring" style of league, but they are strongest when they play to their strengths and that includes a slower tempo, farming focused gameplan.

Rekkles and Hylissang and are becoming one of my absolute favorite duo's in the bot lane. Hylissang's stats may not show it, but he is a phenomenal support player. Rekkles thrives when Hylissang can play a tank support and soak up damage while he is able to output damage and get kills. Although FNC lost, this was more due to their gameplan than their gameplay. Rekkles played a more support style champ resulting in an underwhelming 1/0/4 K/D/A, but it is likely that next week he will be back to his carry ADC role. As for Origen, most of thier stats came in the late game after that had already built up an advantage with the exception of Upset who racked up kills throughout the game. Upset's efforts resulted in a 8/0/6 game. Unfortunately, Upset has a tough matchup this week versus the powerful bot late of FNC.

Origen is a strong team even if their record does not show it. In the past, they have struggled versus teams who play aggressively such as FNC. Both of these teams could be playoff contenders at the end of the split, but in this particular matchup FNC should have the edge assuming they play through Rekkles and let him carry the game from his ADC role.

Fnatic Plays: Rekkles, Selfmade

OG Plays: Alphari

Summary

  1. G2/Rogue and Fnatic/Origen are the premiere matchups this Saturday. Stack your lineups heavily with players from these matchups that you believe will be on the winning side. When two strong teams play one another, there is bound to be some explosive action and the game could go late which means more opportunities for scoring.
  2. SK could have lots of potential value, they are a strong team and should dominate a struggling XL.
  3. Stay away from teams that are cold right now (Misfits, XL, S04) we don't know what to expect out of them yet. Look for players who have a good floor, and matchups where there is the potential for a ton of scoring on the side of the winning team.
